- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2019Years ago my fathers friend gave him a copy of Dicks first book about Cayenne which is called " Left For Dead." He brought the book home and placed it on the coffee table and never read it. A few months went by and something about the book kept grabbing my attention, so I turned the TV off, picked it up - and before I knew it, the sun was peeking through the blinds. I had stayed up the entire night and finished the book. Inspired by Dick's story I drove to the health food store and bought some Cayenne pepper powder and brought it home. In a flurry of excitement and curiosity I mixed a few ounces of water with a small amount of the 40,000 heat unit cayenne and threw it back. Within a minute I felt a warm sensation in my chest, could breath deeper, and felt much better. Little did I know but that shot of cayenne pepper started a now 10 year fascination with cayenne pepper and I have consumed multiple pounds of various varieties from the weak storebought cayenne, all the way up to the 90,000 heat unit and the 160,000 heat unit. We now also grow a wide variety of hot peppers from the trinidad scorpion, naga viper, thai dragon, cayenne, habanero, ghost pepper, carolina reaper, bell pepper, etc. Cayenne pepper started my journey into natural health and healing and I owe it all to the book left for dead. Thank you Dick! Years went by before I stumbled across this book " Death by Deception " which is co-authored by dicks daughter. She has done an absolutely amazing job and her father would be proud to say the least. Dick was a fascinating man and Ive always wanted to know more about him, his life, what he was taking for his health, his family, etc. This book was a lovely explanation to all the questions I had about this mans life. She has done a great job with her words, and at times really makes you feel exactly what the family, including dick was feeling during all of his highs and lows with his health. She is a master-wordsmith and she made it so you could feel the hope, the excitement, as well as the worry that this family went through while their father was sick. I really feel for them all! Dick is one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to natural healing. He was brave and strong, yet tender and loving. He has helped so many people and I continue to recommend his books to people. This book is amazing and you should pick it up and read it immediately!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2017This book about heart failure is the sequel to 'Left for Dead', by Dick Quinn, which I also recommend. The two books are totally different. If you have one, you do still need to read the other.
'Left for Dead' talks about how the author, Dick Quinn, had 2 heart attacks and a couple of bypasses, and was then 'left for dead' by his doctors who said they couldn't do anything more for him. 'Left for Dead' is the story of how he cured himself using cayenne pepper. It's fascinating, and a must-read for anything with clogged arteries.
Dick started writing his second book, 'Death by Deception', but developed heart failure and could not complete the book. It was completed by his daughter and a friend. But don't think that just because he died of heart failure that this book has no value. On the contrary, it's imperative that you read it, to see where he went wrong. (For example, he was on a medication that he tried to wean himself off without supervision. The book explains how that if you're on a medication, even a harmful one, if you just stop taking it or try to wean yourself off of it yourself and you do it wrong, your body can be shocked.) It talks a lot about lifestyle and proper nutrition, and goes far beyond just taking the cayenne that did cure Dick in the first place.
Section 1 of the book tells Dick's story, and it's a fascinating narrative.
Section 2 explains heart failure - what it is, the causes, the progression, and the standard way that the medical establishment treats it.
Section 3 lists herbs that can treat heart failure - what they are, what they do, and how to take them.
Section 4, written by a friend of Dick, talks about the world we live in, why so many people have heart failure, and what we can do to help prevent it.
In my opinion, these 2 books should be read by anyone with heart disease of any kind, and they should also be read by anyone who wants to avoid having heart disease. Your doctor will not tell you these things, unless he/she is very unique.

Other studies back up much of what author states.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2003I completely concur with clangley's review of this book. Death by Deception is the followup book to Dick Quinn's earlier book Left for Dead. In this book, Dick's daughter explains how congestive heart failure is most frequently there waiting for the person who survives a heart attack. She elaborates how cayenne saved her father's life, but how her father relied on it too exclusively to keep him alive and subsequently didn't make the lifestyle changes necessary for him to avoid eventual heart failure. She then goes into excellent detail describing how heart failure develops and what exactly it is. She describes all of the conventional treatments for heart failure and elaborates on the strengths and ultimate weaknesses of these conventional treatments. She then describes a regimen of using natural herbs--including of course cayenne--that help keep both heart attack and congestive heart failure at bay.
I've recommended this book to I don't know how many people. I consider this book a must-read for any male over the age of 35, and a must-read for any female who's approaching menopause, the time heart disease creeps up on many unsuspecting women.
If you don't ever plan on living this long, forget this book! Otherwise, whip out your credit card and order it already!!
