The newly appointed leader of the notorious Rebels bikie gang has died suddenly in police custody, officers have confirmed.

Jamie Ginn, 50, was arrested and charged on Tuesday in relation to “a number of drug and firearm offences” and taken to Perth watch house.

“About 7pm, the man was observed by officers to be suffering a medical episode inside his cell,” Western Australia Police said in a statement.

“Immediate medical assistance was provided until the arrival of St John WA; however, the man could not be revived.”

In March, Mr Ginn was one of the first to be convicted of donning outlawed gang tattoos under laws brought in in 2021.

He, alongside Jason Pettigrove and Jesse Copeman, were convicted of displaying the Rebels insignia at a pool party.

“Where’s the war on pedophiles and the war on government corruption? We no longer live in a free country, we can’t have on our bodies what we want, we can’t wear what we want, we can’t hang around who we want,” he said outside court at the time.

“I’m not taking my tattoos off, they’re staying.”

Anyone found to flaunt a bikie tattoo can be jailed for up to a year or fined $12,000 under the controversial law.
