Merton Borough of Culture 2027. Public engagement survey
Merton: London Borough of Culture 2027
Merton Council is launching a bid to become the capital’s Borough of Culture (BOC) in 2027,
to further promote the area’s creativity, richness and diversity.

Merton BOC will build on the rich cultural offer and celebrate the diversity of our
communities. It aims to deliver a collaborative programme of events using established and
emerging artists and performers from across Merton, to produce high quality arts and
cultural events and activities in the heart of our communities. It will tell the history of the
borough’s rich cultural heritage to develop greater understanding of the borough’s collective
past and create a better understanding of present and future cultural opportunities.

The bid deadline is 30th November 2023.

Resident’s consultation
As part of the bid development, Merton Council is running residents consultation activities
including in person engagement events and this online survey.

The aim of this survey is to gather residents' opinions on their priorities for a potential
Borough of Culture programme, including themes to explore and community identities to
celebrate in Merton.

We need you to help us tell the most exciting and convincing story of Merton.
We would very much welcome your input.

How your responses will be used
The information collected from this resident’s consultation will be used anonymously to
shape the bid writing process in Autumn 2023. The responses and data gathered will be
used as a measure to test the strategic direction of the Borough of Culture against. It will
also be used to help inform decisions made about the overall direction of the bid.

Please note, responses will not directly make decisions on what a programme will look like.
The development of a full Borough of Culture programme will only happen after a successful
bid has been awarded.
