WNA recently applied for and received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status! This very exciting development means donations to WNA are now tax-deductible, and WNA will be eligible to apply for grants for federally recognized nonprofits.

We are pleased to announce a partnership with local group Brentstock Incubators, and a $1000 grant we received from SE Uplift to help residents enhance pedestrian safety by creating native-plant-friendly right-of-way spaces for residents to meet, chat and reflect. Please join us at the May meeting, or contact us at info@woodstockpdx.org to get involved!
Why join WNA? Some of our volunteers explain what they love about their neighborhood association
"Originally, I came to request a porta potty be placed in the neighborhood because we were having people relieve themselves around our church in our gardens.  I stayed because I saw an opportunity to participate in a group to influence activities in and around the Woodstock Neighborhood.
I am a resident in the neighborhood and also bring the voice of our church as a part of the WNA.  As a result, the Pocket Park was placed at All Saints church after others proved reluctant to have it placed on their property.  It is a lovely respite along Woodstock Blvd with a bench, bird bath, bird houses, wayfinder sign, and historic information about the area.
Additionally, efforts to serve people in need generally and due to COVID, All Saints has found a ready pool of volunteers through the WNA who want to help their neighbors but need an organized way to channel their good will.
The periodic programs about crows, coyotes, planned developments, Halloween parties and more bring neighbors together and help make this a wonderful place to live."
-Sonja Miller on 44th St, current secretary for WNA

"I got involved in the neighborhood association in 1984 after I moved next door to someone who was already a member of the WNA.
A neighborhood association is a wonderful way to meet people in your area, work together to plan fun events, make improvements, and learn about organizing and city government while bringing about lasting positive changes.
For example, in the early 2000’s, after almost a decade of trying for funding and city approval, we were able to get the refuge islands put onto Woodstock Boulevard to make it easier for people to cross the busy street.

On Earth Day weekends we had huge neighborhood cleanups in the parking lot of the Chinese Presbyterian Church. Now there are cleanup days once a year that the neighborhood association takes part in where families and individuals get together to pick up litter in the “Village Center” area along Woodstock Blvd. and a few streets in on each side.
These are just a few of the benefits of getting involved in your neighborhood association. Meeting people, sharing information and learning more about the community are lasting enrichments to your life."
-Elizabeth Usher-Groff, co-chair of Friends of Woodstock Community Center

"So you want to know why I’m involved with the Woodstock Neighborhood Association? It’s a combination of enjoying the area around Woodstock Boulevard, and being fascinated by the idea of neighborhood associations that are actually recognized by the city government. Okay, okay, the real reason was that I wanted to meet some interesting people. I thought it likely that folks who would volunteer to make their neighborhood better would have to be interesting. I was right!
Once you stick your toe in the water, you find there are a lot of volunteer opportunities. I’ve helped plant a pocket park, helped add a needed gate at the Community Center, and done some computer tasks for the association. Each one got me closer to new people that I liked.
What’s next? I’m excited about the possibility of creating some small nice places on some of Woodstock’s many 'Roadway Not Improved' Instant gardens!"
- Pete Jacobsen, Area 1 Representative
