This Engineering Tech III position will assist the Contract and Proposal Engineers in all functions related to contract preparation and letting for all Division-Let highway project contracts.  Duties include reviewing plans and estimating quantities to determine if the data contained is correct and in accordance with any planning report, technical data, and current NCDOT and FHWA policies and procedures.  Evaluate and critique estimates, plans and proposals prepared and submitted by other NCDOT units or by consultant engineering firms to ensure that they have been prepared in accordance with NCDOT policies and procedures and federal requirements.  

Evaluate utility conflicts with help from the Utility Coordinator to ensure utilities are moved before advertisement of projects.  Ensure appropriate cost estimates and Project Special Provisions are developed for projects.  Help the Contract and Proposal Engineers in data entry such as the generation and/or review of contract quantities; formulate official engineer’s estimate; and determine contract times.  This position will also assist the Division Design Construct Engineer with survey and design activities on division managed projects.  Position will need a working knowledge of CADD/ORD software. Must be able to legally operate a State vehicle. 

 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Knowledge of mathematical functions (such as algebra, geometry and trigonometry)

  • Experience in taking notes, collecting field data and preparing routine reports

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
