You might want to try the very old fashioned single handle can openers that have a very sharp blade that resembles a sickle.  The housewife model has a nice long handle that offers more power and leverage for your hands.  If you know a veteran who has hiked in the fields during battle training, part of his gear included a miniature version of such a can opener, called a GI P-38.  They sell them at PX stores, Army and Navy stores, and wherever they sell camping equipment.  I bought a couple of the long handled ones in a 99c store years ago, but I can no longer use such a model because my hands are plagued with arthritis. From experience, I can tell you that the modern electric can openers that I&#39;ve recently used (Hamilton Beach and Procter Silex) cannot handle WIDE round cans, such as those that are 12 oz. or larger.  That&#39;s because most of today&#39;s can openers are poorly designed with and without guide posts that are supposed to help us properly align the cutting blade with the can.  I had an ancient Hamilton Beach can opener that never gave me any problems, even with sardine cans that have a pull tab.  Unfortunately, few things last forever.  

After a few very careful attempts, I managed to sit the Great Value corned beef can under the blade of my VERY cheaply designed Procter Silex can opener.  The can lumbered along as the blade cut the can&#39;s top and continuously made loud pops while traveling over valleys and hills that the can&#39;s top didn&#39;t have.  With each loud POP I wondered how much of the lid&#39;s metal shavings were falling into the can.  In an attempt to find a better can opener, today I received a Cuisinart brand and only time will tell if&#39;s any better than the others.

This can usually comes with the opener to the side that looks like a KEY. If not you can get the antique type one that grips to the can and you wind it all the way round.

IF you receive the traditional solid pack corned beef can shown in the listing picture then use the key on the side. Remove it, slip the metal tab through the key and turn clockwise. A strip of metal will come off opening the can. Be careful as this can be sharp. If you get a round can with corned beef and water just use a regular can opener.

You open it with the key... it should be included and attached to the side of the can.

Can received on 3-18-2017 was not as above. It was a flat round can like tuna. It will open with traditional can opener -- BUT IT IS NOT SOLID PACK traditional Brazilian product with no liquid So you pay for liquid (water?) as well as beef.
To open the can shown take the key from the side, insert the metal tab through the slot and turn clockwise and a metal strip will be removed about 1/2 inch from larger end. Be careful as the metal edges of can and removed strip can me sharp enough to cut.

Cannot be opened by a soft edge can opener (i.e. those cuts horizontally). Which type of can opener do you use?
