DEL RIO, Texas – Authorities have arrested three convicted sex offenders behind bars after they were spotted trying to re-enter the United States Thursday.

According to the U.S. Customs & Border Protection, the offenders were caught in three separate incidents, with the first found at 8 a.m. by agents assigned the Uvalde Station. That man was convicted of sexual assault of two children in 2014, when he was sentenced to 10 years in prison and removed from the U.S. in 2017.

The second incident occurred at 10:40 a.m., where agents at Carrizo Spring arrested a large group of undocumented immigrants. Two of the men from that group had prior convictions for sex-related crimes.

The first man was convicted of sexually assaulting a child in 2015, where he was sentenced to five years’ probation and removed from the U.S. the same year.

The second man on the other hand was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in 2009 and sentenced to two years’ probation and deported the same year.

“These three predators had convictions for aggravated criminal sexual abuse and sexual assault of minors,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero II. “We continue to see an increase in convicted sex offenders entering the country illegally and I credit our agents and law enforcement partners for quickly identifying them and ensuring that they do not make it into our communities.”

Due to their prior convictions, these felons could face additional charges for Re-entry After Deportation, which holds a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Border officials say since March 14, a total of seven convicted sex offenders were arrested.
