As of June 1, 2023, the new salary range will be NC08 $36,682 - $64,194.

This posting is for a Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II in our Forsyth Equipment Unit.    This is skilled mechanic work. Employees perform a range of progressive tasks involving services and repair of mechanical systems of gasoline/diesel powered automotive and heavy equipment. Employees may perform mechanic work at various levels. Work assignments vary in complexity depending on the type of mechanical system.   Must be able to perform skilled mechanic work on systems: Preventive Maintenance, Tires, and Tubes, Wheel & Rims, Cranking Systems, Lighting Systems, Cooling Systems, Fuel System, and Hydraulic System.  Employee is required to furnish a set of mechanics tools.  POS# 60024628

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must meet the Education Requirements and all KSAs in order to qualify. Qualified applicants must submit an application that CLEARLY reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience in performing preventive maintenance on a minimum of one of the following: light, medium, heavy-duty trucks and heavy equipment 
  • Experience in diagnostics of basic electrical systems and proper repair of wiring
  • Experience in basic hydraulic system repairs including component replacement and hoses 
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repair of a minimum of one of the following: light, medium, heavy duty or farm equipment brake components 
  • Knowledge of diagnostic software, tools and equipment for trucks and heavy equipment   

Additional Expectations:

Position requires work during any adverse weather such as snow and/or ice, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. which can lead to working extended daily hours, weekends, and holidays. Ability to perform duties of position in accordance with all safety regulations; prepare and maintain paperwork essential to employment, equipment repair, inventory, and service records; understand both written and oral instructions; move parts and material necessary to repair and maintain equipment; and safely operate equipment for testing purposes. Ability to demonstrate commitment to provide safe working environment by leading by example. Ability to read and interpret Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals. Safety toe shoes are required.  Class A CDL with N endorsements required.  Pre-employment drug testing required.  As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.

Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment, or a sufficient year-for- year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
