Recently, a video of a fight between several individuals armed with sharp weapons went viral on social media. It was claimed that the brawl happened in front of a premises in Johor Baru. Did such an incident really occur?

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said police detected a 1-min-49-sec video on the incident that had gone viral on social media on Dec 4.

“Investigations showed that the incident involved a group fighting using sharp weapons in front of a premises in Johor Baru at 12.48am on Dec 4.

“Following information gathered, police conducted raids at two locations and arrested three male suspects, aged between 26 and 28 in Johor Baru.

“All suspects have previous records for criminal and drug offences,” he said, adding that police were still tracking down other suspects who are still at large.

Among the items seized were four mobile phones, a backpack, a machete and a car.

ACP Raub said the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a maximum jail term of five years, a fine or both upon conviction.
