  1. Happy Thursday everyone! All of today’s clue words were blasts from the past. BRIBE was last played on 6/21, while the rest of the lot were seen in the first half of 2020. All of our anagrams were presented in alphabetical order, but none of them had my head spinning. TTARYN took an extra try to solve so it’ll be my pick for today’s hardest anagram.

Riveting cartoon of a construction worker trying to drill a hole into a concrete block. The sledge hammer leaning against the wall indicates that he first punched a hole through the drywall to expose his work area. The anthropomorphic drill is obviously struggling to get the job done. My first guess as to why is because he’s using a regular drill bit instead of a masonry bit. A regular bit will work in a pinch, but you have to drill slowly so as not to overheat the drill. Some of the smaller details I noticed were a hole for the chuck key, some air inlets on the drill and a small hole at the bottom of the wall.

The final solve clocked in at 13-letters and just happened to be the same length as yesterday’s. I noticed BORE after staring at the letters for a few minutes and the rest of the answer flowed easily from the remainder. On to tomorrow! Until then, be well and enjoy the day.

  3. On This Day in History: AUGUST 5th

-(1833) The village of Chicago was incorporated. The population was approximately 250.

-(1957) “American Bandstand” premieres on network TV (ABC).

-(1966) In New York, groundbreaking for the construction of the original World Trade Center began.

  4. Solution eluded me!
    Anagrams came fast. I guess I don’t think like a drill……..
Dodgers have a lot of good stuff going on. They got Max Sherser who is heading toward a victory tonight!
They also got a lot of other great players, like Cole. Should be an interesting last third of the season.
    GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!

  5. It was a partial blind solve….initially thought it was TOOK, until saw there was no K in anagrams. Then saw the puzzle intentions and brought what a drill does into play…Ergo – BORE THE…..

Anagrams were easy, though initially misspelled the third word (THOUGH instead of FOUGHT) so didn’t have the letters to substantiate the answer. That was a quick fix. Will be interesting to see Angela’s song and how it BEARS a resemblance to this puzzle, or past tense…how it BORE one.

  6. Good Morning, Everyone. 🧱 WAS THIS BORING…OR RIVETING? 🧱

🎶…Now you say it was just a game…(I’m in pieces, BITS AND PIECES…But all you’re doin’ is leavin’ me pain…🎶 “Bits and Pieces” – The Dave Clark Five 1964 https://tinyurl.com/3tvn7a2v

🧱 When drilling into concrete, use a masonry bit,
And watch your speed, go slowly…that’s the right way to do it…
This guy here in the LOBBY is a TYRANT of a sort,
He’s overheating this poor drill..no wonder why it FOUGHT…
He just might need to BRIBE it, after changing that wrong bit…
‘Cause we can see that this drill here def BORE THE BRUNT OF IT! 🧱

  7. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Seeing how often that TYRANT of a bully FOUGHT with the other kids in the LOBBY, and how one child too many BORE THE BRUNT OF IT, the monitor thought to try to BRIBE him into behaving…🤷🏻‍♂️

💣 The lesson was on times of old, a TYRANT and a czar,
How wars were FOUGHT and people took a BRIBE to try get far…
And after class he waited in the LOBBY, books in hand,
To ask the teacher would she help him better understand
What caused these men to start these wars?…And then sadly to wit…
It was their countrymen oft times who BORE THE BRUNT OF IT 💣

  8. Good morning. The words came easy. A glacé at each one produced the word right away. Unfortunately I still couldn’t come up with a blind solve. I needed the letters to get the whole picture. Good song choice Angela. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

    • Good Morning, Paul. Thank you. And Tks for the Twilight Zone info last night. I found the channel…Hoping you’re staying well and safe too, Paul…Enjoy your day! 🧱🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. “Whoa….why me?” said the drill with a grunt.
“Why not you who’s bearing the brunt?”
    “Because bit by bit
    I’ve decided you’re it
You’re the guy who’s staying upfront!”

    • Hi Helen…I think this one best follows your lead…🙋🏻‍♀️

🧱 So our guy tried to drill through the wall..
But it didn’t go easy at all…
      He had the wrong bit,
      The drill took a fit…
And they may just end up in a brawl! 🧱

And I did this one because life’s not always an “easy fit”! 😉

🤷🏻‍♀️ Like in life, when you hit a brick wall,
You can bounce back or just take the fall…
Sure we all bear a brunt,
      But it’s smile…or grunt…
And I’d rather be laughing than bawl! 🤷🏻‍♀️

  10. My birthday is today 8/5. l am 93 yrs old….. My spouse and I have been married 71 yrs…..

    • HaPpY 93rd bIrThDaY!!! 🎁 🎂 🎈

71 years of marriage is quite a milestone. Wishing you and your partner many more beautiful years together. Thank you for sharing your day with us. All the best!

    • Congratulations! Such a good example. Perhaps the Jumble played a role in this accomplishment.

  11. Anagrams came quickly, even ‘fought’,Cartoon solution w the multitude of letters gave me reason to pause, but after bore came to mind, and the 2 letter words were ‘of it’ rather than ‘ to it’,the complete solution was apparent.

  12. I thought it was a cute puzzle this morning. Especially like the dialogue from the drill that he was doing all the work. Figured the last two words would be to it or of it. Once I saw bore the rest fell into place easily. Have a good Thursday all.

    • Good morning Betty. I thought Jumble Jeff did a marvelous job of bringing the drill to life. If the bit went any deeper, I’m sure we would have seen a pile of concrete dust on the ground. Take care. 🙂

  13. My initial 2 letter words were On It. Until I saw it had to be Brunt. Fell into place rather quickly today! Good day to All! ☀️

    • Hi Kim! There were too many two-letter combinations for me to go that route — OF IT, ON IT, TO IT. BORE popped out at me as all the letters for it were near the front of the anagram. RNT at the end made BRUNT a cinch to find. Enjoy the sunshine! 🙂
