Story

Posted Saturday 8th May 2021

As Headteacher of St Paul’s  Primary School in Royton, Oldham I am passionate about supporting children’s and families’ mental health.

With so much uncertainty in the world, children and young people need emotional support now more than ever. That's why I'm taking part in Step Out for Mental Health with Place2Be. The aim is to run 31 miles during May (hence 31). I am planning to do this over one week as a personal challenge. Place2Be is the UK's leading provider of school-based children's mental health services. During lockdown, they have been working tirelessly to provide support to children and families who need them most. With your support, Place2Be can continue to be there for families . £30 could pay for a vulnerable family to get support from a mental health professional. For many isolated families this is a lifeline, giving them access to basic necessities like food.- £100 could help 14 children to reach Place2Be and talk about their fears anxieties and low mood. Thank you for supporting me.

A big thank you for your support on my first day. 6 miles (10km) achieved in one hour today.  I am truly overwhelmed by the generosity shown in the donations received so far.

Wowi cannot believe the generosity bestowed today. I have achieved another 9.5 miles in sun, rain and ‘hail’ which blocked my vision for ten minutes but nevertheless didn’t stop progress. Parents have been amazing and yr 6 joined in all afternoon and our ASC class joined in too with musical instruments to help the rhythm of running! They have all    inspired me and provided continued motivation today. Well done to those who joined in. And to those who have continued to donate throughout today. All for children’s mental health and well being.

Thank you

I have finally completed the 31 mile challenge at 2:50 pm today with the whole school watching in distanced class bubbles. All the school have taken part in some way with me over the last four days including a Governor, site manager and office staff. I am blessed to have a truly supportive school family. At the time of writing we have raised £1080 and there is still time to raise even more.

Thank you
