I’m at one of my sons house and couldn’t figure out why Caroline made reference to Superman until I asked my granddaughter and after looking at your enlarged picture of the items she noticed the globe with Daily Planet on it. I now see what hoodies I miss everyday. Take care.

    🗞 As any good reporter knows, some stories just take preference
    And “dropping everything” translates to time is of the essence…
    The guy that we are seeing here, he’s not INEPT I’m sure,
    A BETTOR’d put good money that he’ll soon be out the door
    Most likely the front page will be about the solemn day
    When what was our security we watched be wrenched away
    We need no GUIDE to bring us back, despite the years gone past,
    We look TOWARD the future, but the memories still last
    That’s why our Editor has faith that Jimmy’s a good fit…
    She picked her Ace Reporter knowing he’d GET “WRITE ON IT” 🗞

    With September 11th being a day of reflection and patriotism, it’s good to see it included as a part of our cartoon this morning…

    Today we find ourselves in a Metropolis Newsroom, where four cubicles are filled. While our main character, the reporter Jimmy, is seen working on a story, his Editor approaches telling him to drop everything in order to cover tomorrow’s front page story. Tomorrow? That means he’s definitely PRESSed for time…So he better GET “WRITE” ON IT…Another winning BYLINE!

    Our cartoon…As you can see from the items that Mike PRINTed above, today’s panel is lush with Eye Candy. We see the all too familiar Post-its stuck to the monitor, the wired keyboard, ice in the half filled Solo cup, the cards READing “Call”, etc on one and a phone number with an Indiana “317” area code on the other, the pen inscribed with the word Jumble. And of course, as I mentioned earlier, the tribute to 9/11 in the presence of that top sheet of paper showing the “Remember” https://tinyurl.com/yys78m4a logo and the American Flag. But the one ARTICLE today that takes the win has to be the Newspapers Name and logo shown at the top left of the panel. The Globe. The Daily Planet. How could one not be amused?   3. 🙏🏻 As the days drew closer and closer TOWARD September 11th, she always felt INEPT when it came to finding the right words to say at the memorial, and as she prepared to GET RIGHT ON IT, she hoped some divine intervention would GUIDE her…but being a BETTOR by nature, she knew that no words would ever suffice…🙏🏻

    💧He’d always been a BETTOR, sadly though he was INEPT,
    He’d lost a lot of money as compared to what he’d kept
    His common sense eluded him instead of act the GUIDE
    And ever year he’d bet himself that this time tears he’d hide…
    Each year he’d work TOWARD being strong and stoic as could be,
    But in his heart he knew quite well…it was fait accompli…
    So in the back of Church he’d be…that’s where he’d always sit
    And as he’d weep he’d think next time he might GET RIGHT ON IT 💧

  4. Good morning. My choice for hardest word was Bettor. I backed into it when I solved the cartoon answer and knew the three letters I needed to complete my task. Nice song choice Angela. I was playing it while watching the 911 tribute. We can only pray that we will meet our love ones that have passed. God bless everybody and God bless America. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

  5. No problem today with the words or answer. But I missed many of the drawing’s details and didn’t grasp that the Jumble was about Superman.So thanks, Mike and Angela. I was actually able to see the details with the PDF you linked, Angela. Jeff adds so many fun and interesting details, even poignant ones like today, it’s a shame to miss them.
    I doubt if Clark Kent would have had a female editor in the original strip but I’m not sure.

    • You’re most welcome, Caroline! I hope I’m doing the details justice because my collage skills are self-taught! And obviously I need to work on them some more because I placed a “source” tag to give Jeff credit for his work but it didn’t show up. I’ll work on it some more this evening and get it right.

  6. The story of Ann Smith Franklin is quite compelling. Thanks for sharing this Angela.
    I approached the task differently today. Instead of doing the solution last I did it first, then all of the words jumped into place. Clever solution!
    I love the Daily Planet reference since my life has included multiple Clark Kents and Jimmy Olsens. All pretty easy but a fun way to wind down the week.
    The smoke seems heavier today. The sky is dirty and my allergies are peaking. There is no Superman to extinguish the fires, but mortal men are doing their best right now.
    Memories of 9/11 always flood back at this time of year. How would yesterdays heroes be treated by the street mobs of today?

Hi MIke, just wanted to let you know that I am happy to know that all is well with you and yours.I have to admit that I don’t read posts most of the time but had noticed that you had not posted in quite sometime. I read that a Mike had died that had been with Jumble and it concerned me as I thought of you. So glad to know that all is well with you and yours and I know it is hectic during this pandemic for all of us. Being in education I do worry about our children getting behind in school but “this too, shall pass”. BTW I remember when I first found your site on the internet several years ago and there were only a few brief posts; things have really changed over the years. Thanks for letting me know that you are just taking time from Jumble to help your children. Keep up the good work and you and your family stay safe.

    • Hi Sue! There were a lot of “things” going on that contributed to my absence. The switch to virtual learning happened within a few days, my dog suddenly passed away a few days later after a sudden health issue and then my wife was furloughed from work. It’s been anything but easy…..

      On the bright side though, we’ve come quite a ways from those early days in late Feb/March. There’s no homework this year, we’re looking at puppies and my wife is back to work and business is booming.

      The story about Mike passing was actually a different Mike. Before David started with the Jumble there was a fellow named Mike Argirion. I noticed my Florida newspaper still had him listed as a creator 11 years after his death! I wrote to them and they replaced his name in the newspaper with David’s after 3 or so weeks. I do apologize if it had you concerned and I trust that you and yours are safe, healthy and happy. 🙏🏻

  9. Hi all – Pretty easy much like yesterday. A slight adjustment to change BETTER into BETTOR, and then the pun showed “WRITE” and the answer.

    Yes, the first thing I noticed in the cartoon was what looked like logo of the Daily Planet in Metropolis, and enlarging it online confirmed it.

    Thanks also for that link Angela. At first look I wondered whether the Newport was the one in RI, but it soon became apparent. Great stuff about Ben Franklin’s link to the state, and despite going there, I’d never heard that URI even had a Journalism Hall of Fame.

    • Good Morning, Steve. Thanks, I enjoyed it too, especially the Ben Franklin connection. It’s a very interesting read. I originally wanted to try to make some kind of a Lois Lane portrayal with the Editor, but realized it wasn’t feasible, and that’s how I came across the article. And when Caroline mentioned it, it was a nice way to segue it in…But I like that Jeff made the Editor a woman…and not another grouch like Perry and J.Jonah. And I got a laugh from your inept handicapper…definitely been one myself at times…Be well, Steve…and stay safe out there. 🗞🙋🏻‍♀️
