Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election polling day set for May 11

PUTRAJAYA: Polling day for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election has been set for May 11, says the Election Commission (EC).

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh said on Thursday (April 4) that Nomination Day will be on April 27, while early voting would be on May 7.

The Selangor state assembly seat fell vacant following the death of its three-term assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong, who passed away on March 21 after a battle with cancer.

She was 58.

This will be the seventh by-election after the 15th General Election.

By-elections were held for the Kuala Terengganu, Kemaman and Pulai parliamentary seats and Simpang Jeram, Pelangai and Jepak state seats.

“The estimated cost to carry out the by-election is RM2.5mil,” he told a press conference.

Abdul Ghani said there are a total of 40,226 registered voters in the Kuala Kubu Baharu constituency, of which 39,363 are regular voters, 238 armed forces and spouses while 625 are police personnel and spouses.

The EC will assign 750 officers to manage the by-election.

There will be 18 polling centres with 74 channels, while two voting centres will be prepared for the early voting process.

Abdul Ghani said the nomination centre and the official ballot tallying centre will be at the Hulu Selangor sports complex.

“We are offering government agencies and non-government organisations opportunities to observe the by-election process,” he added.
