It's no secret that tires are some of the most important parts of an automobile. That's because they're the only part that actually touch the ground, helping to grip the road and bring the car safely to a stop.

So, when the tires are worn down or damaged, their performance is compromised. This means you can be at a great risk of getting into an accident near Miami, Hollywood, or Miami Beach.

To prevent that from happening, you'll need to know exactly when to replace tires. We here at Audi North Miami will go over that below and will let you know where you can get a new set of tires today.

General Lifespan of a Tire

After five years, your tires should be thoroughly inspected once a year by a professional. After six years, they should be replaced, regardless of use. Ten years is the maximum lifespan of tires, so if they're not replaced by then, you'll be gambling with the car's performance, along with your safety.

If you're not sure how old your tires are, take a look at the side of the tire, where the manufacturer's code will be. The last four numbers represent the production date. For example, if you see 1018, then it means that the tires were produced in the 10th week of 2018.

Signs You Need New Tires

Even if your tires are fairly new, they may need to be replaced before the 6-year mark. This is due to a combination of factors, including:

  • Tire design
  • Climate
  • Road conditions
  • Driver's habits

One way to know if you need new tires is to pay attention to how the car feels when driving. If the ride seems rough or you start to feel vibrations in the steering wheel, then the tires may be wearing unevenly. A tire balance usually fixes this problem. However, if the vibration doesn't stop, then the tire may be damaged and will then have to be replaced. If your tires do need to be replaced, be sure to check out our current tire specials!

Another good way to determine if you need new tires is to do a thorough visual inspection. If there are any abnormal bulges or bubbles in the sidewall, then the internal frame of the tire has been damaged and cracked. If there are cracks all over the tires, then the rubber is breaking down.

You'll also want to check tire depth, which can be done with a penny test. Place a penny upside down with Lincoln's head in the center of the tread or the thickest part of the tire. If you see the very top of his head, then the tires will need to be replaced immediately. Once the tread depth gets down to 2/32 of an inch, the tire is no longer safe to drive on.
