Syahredzan wants PN MP hauled up over 'kafir' remark

KUALA LUMPUR: A Pakatan Harapan lawmaker wants Pengkalan Chepa MP Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary referred to the Dewan Rakyat Rights and Privileges Committee for his "kafir" (infidel) remarks.

Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi) said he filed the motion on Wednesday (Oct 18).

“The motion is to refer YB Pengkalan Chepa to the Committee for his 'DAP is kafir' remarks,” he told the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Oct 19).

"I have filed the motion because this remark is an insult to the House. As MPs, we must put an end to such remarks - even more so since it was directed to me as a Muslim MP,” he added.

He then asked Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Noh, who was presiding, on the status of the motion.

Ahmad Marzuk, of Perikatan Nasional, then responded that he was simply citing the Pahang Mufti, before his microphone was turned off.

Syahredzan also asked for guidance from Ramli on the Zionist remarks uttered by Datuk Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) towards Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) in an exchange during Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s (PN-Pagoh) debate of Budget 2024.

Ramli said Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul is still deliberating on the motion and the issue related to Awang Hashim’s remarks.

A shouting match erupted on Tuesday (Oct 17) after Ahmad Marzuk questioned Howard Lee (PH-Ipoh Timor) over his video of a Quranic interpretation that went viral last month.
