Radical Sexual Acceptance (RSA) Informed consent form (Step 2)

Dear Candidate:

Thank you for taking the time to read about this clinical research study and consider participation.  I hope that your current life situation is one that may be benefited from this proprietary intimacy/life coaching methodology called Radical Sexual Acceptance (RSA).  I would like to invite you to participate in this clinical research on RSA.  Please carefully read this informed consent form and sign at the bottom of the form if you wish to take part in this clinical study.

What to expect moving forward:

After the Intake Survey you will be given a link to the Non-Disclosure Agreement.  After completing the Non-Disclosure Agreement you will be prompted to send an email indicating you are ready for introductory materials.  The Introductory materials are a video, word document, and presentation slide deck introducing RSA in detail.  After the intake material is complete you will be prompted to take the Post Intro Survey.  After the Post Intro Survey, your application will be reviewed and you will be informed if you are selected to continue.  If you are selected to continue, you will be given the opportunity to schedule your 4 free life/intimacy coaching sessions over a period of 4-6 weeks.  After the 4 sessions have been completed you will be given a link for the Exit Survey and you will have completed your participation in the RSA research study.

The Process

This research intends to mainly collect self reported data from participants.  The framework of the cycle of Radical Sexual Acceptance is presented briefly in session and the participant is encouraged to lead the session based on what they feel is most urgent and necessary.  

The researcher will also ask questions like "What worked for you today?", "What didn't work for you today?", "What from the homework did you find effective?", "On a scale of 1-10, how true is this statement for you today?", and so on.  Researchers may also ask for written or spoken statements describing your experiences.

Advantages

In participating in this research, the participants can get $1000 worth of intimacy/life coaching at no cost.  The aim of the 4 sessions is to foster greater acceptance though the development of strategies and tools.  Additionally, participants who make it through all steps will be entered into a raffle where they become eligible to win any of three gifts ($100 Visa Gift Card, $50 Stockroom.com Gift Card, or a 1-Year Membership to SanctuaryLAX.com).

Risks in Participation

There are no physical risks in participating in this research.  You may be asked to think about things that can be upsetting or dysregulating.  There is a relatively small risk of becoming emotional about things we discuss or discover and becoming triggered or activated.  Every care will be taken to provide participants with the tools and support to self-regulate and return to a neutral state before the end of the session.

Cost

There is no extra expense that will be incurred by participating in this research.

Time Commitment
The estimated time commitment for participating in this study is roughly 15 hours over as many as 6 weeks (no fewer than 4), or less than 3 hours per week for 6 weeks.  Intake surveys, forms, and intro materials take approximately 4 hours, coaching takes 4 hours total, homework assignments take a minimum of 3 total, and exit surveys take an estimated 4 hours.  Your experience may be different if you are a particularly slow or fast reader or if you elect to spend more than the minimum time on homework assignments.

Opting for Private Coaching
     If you would prefer to receive coaching at your own pace, without the time commitment of surveys, you are welcome to receive private coaching in leu of participating in the research.  Private coaching is available for people who opt out in the intake process, opt out after receiving some coaching, participants that have not been selected to move forward with the study, or for those that complete the study and would like to continue coaching.  Ask about the Research Participant Discount.
Purpose

The aim of this research is to understand the coaching method of RSA and how it might be able to help someone in your particular situation. 

Participants

We intend to recruit people experiencing an unsatisfactory level of acceptance with regard to their sexuality and/or gender. Participants are recruited online or at in-person events.

Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria

The full list of inclusion and exclusion criteria is included in the screening form.

Confidentiality Agreement

The research administrator understands and respects the privacy of each and every individual. I guarantee that the information gathered through this research shall never be sold, shared, or disclosed to anyone outside of the research team without the consent of the participant. The participant has the right to his/her/their information (provided upon request) including the right to share his/her/their information in journals. I may still continue to share the information as to our findings based on the participant's information but without disclosing the personal information of the said participant.  If the participant is referred to in the literature, a suitable code name or pseudonym will be used in place of the participants actual name in order to protect their privacy and anonymity.

Rights of Participant

I respect the rights and privacy of the participant. Given this research is voluntary in nature, the participant may withdraw from the research at any time.  I do ask that if at all possible, if the participant has completed at least one of the 4 sessions, that they still fill the exit surveys, so their data can also contribute to the data set, but it is optional.
