A developer is firming up plans to expand the Okotoks community of Wedderburn further to the east by seeking amendments to the North Okotoks Area Structure Plan (ASP).
An open house about the proposal is planned for Wednesday, Dec. 6 at the Crystal Shores Beach House in Okotoks from 5 to 7:30 p.m
The North Okotoks ASP was originally approved by Okotoks council in 2016 and enabled the development of Wedderburn, east of Northridge Drive and directly south of 338 Avenue.
Since it was approved, the Town’s boundaries have changed through an annexation from Foothills County, and Okotoks has adopted policies for more compact and sustainable development.
The amendments proposed by the developer include adding about 64 hectares of land that was formerly part of Foothills County to the planning area, extending its boundary to 32 Street and addressing the updated policies.
The additional land is proposed to be primarily developed as single and semi-detached residential, with some mixed-use retail and multi-unit housing.
Anthem Properties began the process to amend the ASP in 2021 and held an online open house in 2022.
According to the project website, next steps include a public hearing to be held in early 2024.
