Meet Harley Barley

6/15 UPDATE from one of H.B.'s volunteer besties: In a short time, he has mastered the "Down" command. He is very treat motivated which, combined with his intelligence, makes him so fun to train. He is even picking up on the agility course! I took him for a walk on Sunday and he did great. No leash pulling, although he could still use some walking practice. He seemed a little timid with loud cars and sudden noises, but with a few words of encouragement he easily became more comfortable even as the walk went on. We passed by kids playing, other dogs walkers, lawnmowers ... no reactions. He even patiently waited by my side while I stopped and chatted with a resident.

5/24/2021 Around 3 years old and 45 pounds, Harley is full of energy and happy, happy, happy! He was adopted from a high-kill shelter in March, then returned barely a month later when the owners moved to a place that did not allow dogs.

Harley is bouncy, playful and (at the moment) humorously hopeless on leash. His manners are a work in progress, but he’s a smart cookie and a fast learner--knows sit and is working on mastering lay down. He'll be a lot of fun to train! He doesn't "get" how to play with dog toys at the moment, but seeing him start to try is so cute!

Harley acts like a big puppy and always seems to be trying to give some extra love! He will try to climb into your lap and go in for the face licks.

A big, rowdy, happy-go-lucky puppy, Harley needs a fenced yard and humans not intimidated by his size and energy level. Please check back for updates as we get to know Har-Bar better.

*** Visit STAF.org for more information on our adoption process, or email adoptAdog@STAF.org to express your interest in adopting. ***

• All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots.
• We do not do same-day adoptions. You will be asked to return for at least one follow-up visit, then take the dog home for a trial period before officially adopting.
• You must be 21 years or older to adopt from STAF.
• We require a 4-foot-tall physical fence for homes with children under the age of 11. We also may require a physical fence for specific dogs on a case-by-case basis, depending on each dog’s behavior and exercise needs.
• Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training, we can not adopt to homes with invisible fences.
• We do request vet and personal references.
• We can facilitate adoptions within a 75-mile radius of our Cincinnati-based shelter.
