Our gathering took place at Fred Burg's airstrip in Stonewall, where we had a fly-in/drive-in event. It was an enjoyable occasion filled with lively discussions about aircraft, shared humor, and a picturesque environment. Fred and Bernice Burg served as our hosts, and as always, they excelled in making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. The atmosphere they created truly enhanced our meeting, making it an experience to remember.
There was a vast array of aircraft to be admired.
Both pilots and non-pilots gathered together to share in their mutual fascination for aircraft. This event provided an opportunity for them to examine various types of planes up close and personal. Moreover, it wasn't just about the machines; the event also fostered an atmosphere of camaraderie and enjoyment among the attendees, regardless of their flying experience.

Juli Martinez, our esteemed EAA 2023 Ray Aviation Scholar, was acknowledged for her remarkable achievement of acquiring a private pilot license. This significant accomplishment is the result of her unwavering dedication and hard work.
We also celebrated Lucky Lindy Segall for his relentless efforts as the Ray Scholar Coordinator, a role he has managed with utmost commitment.
To commemorate Juli's journey to becoming a private pilot, we presented her with a unique photo album that chronicles her inspiring journey towards achieving her pilot's license, capturing every step of her aviation adventure.
In recognition of Lindy's invaluable contributions, he was given a plaque as a token of our appreciation. His tireless service as the Ray Scholar Coordinator has not gone unnoticed and this award stands as a testimony to his dedication.

The lunchtime experience was filled with friendly banter and laughter. The shared experience of eating together, coupled with the warm interactions, amplified the sense of togetherness, making lunch more than just a meal, but a memorable event.
It was truly a privilege for us to have Juli's family present at the event. They are a lively, fun-loving group that radiates positivity, clearly reflecting their unwavering support for Juli. Their support for her is palpable and deeply inspiring.

Gratitude is indeed in order for the dedicated individuals who tirelessly transported attendees to and from the picnic area.

Baby Waghorn Makes His Inaugural Flight
Arthur, the latest addition to our Fly Boy squadron and the cherished EAA 1088 member, has recently made an impressive debut. Being the son of Ian and Tess Waghorn, Arthur's passion for the skies is inherent. He bravely embarked on his inaugural flight, a feat that is a testament to his natural aptitude for aviation. Despite being his first time off the ground, Arthur remained unphased, demonstrating the composure and cool-headedness characteristic of a true pilot. It's clear, even at this early stage, that Arthur is set to soar high in the aviation world.

Longtime GA Advocate Goes West
Longtime general aviation advocate and EAA member Sen. (Retired) James Inhofe (R-OK) died on Tuesday, July 9, at age 89. Sen. Inhofe retired from the U.S. Senate in 2022 after serving more than a quarter-century and leaving a lasting mark on Congress and general aviation.
“Jim Inhofe had a remarkable, positive influence on the growth and preservation of general aviation as a member of Congress,” said Jack J. Pelton, EAA CEO and Chairman. “His passion for aviation, as well as his in-depth knowledge on the workings of Congress, provided countless results that benefited those of us who fly. EAA awarded Jim our highest honor, the Freedom of Flight Award, in 2022, to recognize those accomplishments. He leaves a tremendous legacy, and we offer condolences to his family.”
During his time in Congress, Sen. Inhofe had a significant impact on the general aviation community with his support of numerous key pieces of legislation. He was instrumental in reforms to manufacturer liability through the passage of the General Aviation Revitalization Act. He also championed pilots with the Pilot’s Bill of Rights and BasicMed medical certification and was a strong proponent of aviation workforce development.
Sen. Inhofe was an 11,000-hour pilot and owner of numerous general aviation aircraft, including an RV-8, Cessna 340, and Grumman Tiger. He was a regular at AirVenture, attending more than 40 consecutive events, hosting his annual Congressional Forum, and updating attendees on his legislative activities supporting general aviation.
Before serving in the U.S. Senate, Sen. Inhofe served in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Oklahoma House and Senate, and as mayor of Tulsa, Oklahoma

Drones with Remote ID Equipment
Hey Y’All,
Here’s another informative piece of smarts for you.
How many of you know what a FRIA is? No, it’s not something you order in a Tex-Mex restaurant.
Well, a FRIA is an FAA- Recognized Identification Area. I’m glad we were able to clear that up…….NOT!
Here’s the textbook definition – A FRIA is a defined geographic area where drones can be flown without Remote ID equipment. Both the drone and the pilot must be located within the FRIA's boundaries throughout the operation. The drone operator must see the drone.
Now the picture become just a little more clear………The FRIA has to do with Drones. It’s basically a designated Drone Playground.
Did you know that there are several of these FRIAs sprinkled around San Antonio? Actually, they are all over the US. To tell you the truth, I didn’t know either.
So, the FAA has come up with a website that graphically shows the locations and all the pertinent information about each FRIA. FRIA Map
If you zoom in on the map to a specific FRIA site, it will link you to the detailed information.
Want more information? Try this –
See Y’All next time,
Ryan

First Landing of our 4th Aircraft |
The Eagle has Landed. For the Eagle’s Nest Project Wisconsin (ENP WI) team, this is our fourth landing of our new plane. The plane is known as the F4 Raptor. It made its first landing this week thanks to the hard work of all the students. As we celebrate the landing, we had a bit of fun pointing out to the pilots of the group that it was their best landing to date. All kidding aside, this was a huge accomplishment, and everyone is so proud of this great group of students. |
