A supernatural serial killer closes in on Casi and Lucas, but can they outrun it, or will they be its next victims? Casi returns to New Orleans in the hopes of a fresh start but soon becomes the target of a monster. Fleeing for her life as a witness, she’s placed in the care of a sexy Cajun detective named Lucas. Harboring an abusive past, she’s wary of the police and of Lucas. Is she truly safe? The attraction grows between them and while she tries to fight it, his touch and tenderness light her soul on fire. As they dash through the streets of New Orleans, can their special abilities combat a supernatural killer on the loose or will they, in fact, be the next victims?

Redeemed by Fire is a volatile paranormal romance I couldn’t stop reading. From the gorgeous setting of New Orleans and its surrounding bayou to the danger of a supernatural killer to the romance, this book has everything you could possibly want in a paranormal romance. The setting is beautifully described with intricate detail so that it truly plunged the reader into the story. The characters are well-developed with plenty of conflicts to overcome. CJ Bahr’s writing style is very deep POV so that the reader can really get a feel for what is going on. The way she tackles Casi’s abusive past is so well done, my heart went out to her and other victims. Hunky Lucas is a hero after my own heart. The plot moved at a great pace with plenty of twists and turns to keep me whipping through the pages. I stayed up late at night just to read a little more. The romance between Casi and Lucas was explosive, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The killer subplot is one of the most original ones I’ve read. The ending caused an emotional response from me. Nope, no spoilers here, you’ve got to read it for yourself. If you’re like me and love traveling via books, you’ve got to read Redeemed by Fire. Paranormal romance readers will love Redeemed by Fire. A brilliant story from start to finish, Redeemed by Fire is one of the best books of 2021. Highly recommend!

C J Bahr’s third book in her Fire Chronicles series is fantastic. If you’ve never been to New Orleans, you will want to go after reading Redeemed By Fire, and if you have already been, you’ll want to go back. This author gives readers an excellent view of NOLA, not to mention characters who will make you want to pull up a seat and stay awhile. I’ve been blessed to read the first two books in this series, and I loved both, but there is just something about a good-looking man who has the most sensual and romantic Cajun accent that will have women queuing up to find out what makes Lucas Avery tick. Perhaps it’s his always do right and follow the letter of the law, for the most part, attitude, which is a good rule to follow because Luc is a detective with the New Orleans P.D. He catches bad guys and puts them away. And that is where our adorable and feisty heroine comes into play. Although labeled a bad sort, Cassanne Thomas only wants to be left alone. Hurt by accusations that are not true send her to New Orleans, where she hopes to start a new life, but a serial killer murders her best friend and is leaving victims all over the place. A mode of operation that has Luc totally c’est fou or if you don’t speak Cajun crazy. Well, what I can say but soon Luc and Casi find themselves in danger and hunted by a supernatural creature. The siren who kidnaps Casi bites off enough to choke, but that only puts Casi in the crosshairs, because the lovely mortal has a charm the siren will kill to get back. Exciting, you betcha, and with the siren stalking Luc and Casi, they have their hands full. The closer they get to stopping the killer the more Luc and Casi realize they belong together. As I’ve said before, I don’t give away any secrets when it comes to reviews. Just know that this book is suspenseful, romantic, and since the city of New Orleans is filled with the supernatural, let’s throw in an archangel for good measure. Now, hop on a trolley and make certain you get your hands on Redeemed by Fire. Ms. Bahr does not disappoint. Oh, yeah, the cat steals their thunder. MistressofBookReviews.com

New Orleans and the bayous, a supernatural villain, a hunky Cajun cop, and a troubled heroine. Oh, and a cat who seems to be more than a cat. What more could you ask for? Okay, one caveat – there is a note at the beginning that the story contains references to sexual abuse. That being said, there is a lot going on in this story. Casi is on the run from a supernatural serial killer, but she doesn’t trust cops. Casi was hoping for a new start in New Orleans, but what she gets is danger, not just from the killer, but from losing her heart to the handsome Detective Lucas Avery. As they go on the run, their attraction to each other grows, something neither one wants at the beginning.

The setting is intricately presented so you feel as if you are there. The characters are well-drawn and believable and the attraction between Casi and Lucas is excellent. And the ending is definitely satisfying.

Recommendation: If you’re looking for some romantic paranormal suspense, definitely pick this one up. You won’t be disappointed.

The main highlight for me is the relationship shared by Casi and Lucas as they keep on fighting their emotions until the end of the novel.
A token of appreciation for CJ Bahr for maintaining the flow of the story line and not boring the audience even for once. The writing style of the novel is pretty simple.

There are two more books in the Fire of Chronicle series but none of them is related to each other. Hence you can start reading any of it at any point of time.

In addition to this,This book isn’t unexpectedly spooky but doesn't fail to hit the right notch either.

CJ Bahr has done it again – another terrific book in the “Fire Chronicle” series. I love the way she uses New Orleans as another character in a book already full of great ones including Casi Thomas, a woman with a mysterious gift, and Detective Lucas Avery. I mean, who doesn’t love a hot Cajun? LOL. The plot takes on unexpected twists and turns, and the romance is sweetly tender. This book was a page-turner from start to finish – I highly recommend it.

CASI AND LUKE SAVE NEW ORLEANS’S UNSUSPECTING CITIZENS

I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review.

Cassanne (Casi) Thomas is running from her life in California. She returns to her roots in New Orleans to start over. Lucas (Luc) Avery is a detective investigating a strange series of murders. Casi is the only one to give him a clue as to who the murderer is. Luc and his partner, Vincent (Vince) Tate, a former Delta Force soldier are grateful to have this small break. I love the way Casi feels that she can be independent and gets over her fears and insecurities around Luc. This story carries a lot of pent-up problems that people face today and ignore. I also loved the paranormal aspects of the story. It gave it a bit more interesting read.

This paranormal romance has a slice of everything – romance, angels, a serial killer villain, action, and drama. The characters are well-developed from Casi’s emotional backstory to Luc being just an amazing guy. There were even several secondary characters that stood out. One of my favourites was Vincent, who I hope gets a story of his own. This is the third book in The Fire Chronicles, and while I didn’t read the first two books, Redeemed By Fire reads well on its own and I didn’t feel as though I was missing anything from the story. It had the potential to be great, but then it was totally ruined (at about 80% in). It was good enough early on that I cared enough to be disappointed when it went downhill. I started out pretty good and I was invested in both the plot, characters, and developing romance. That’s why it was so disappointing when the romance turned borderline-abusive and unhealthy, the male love interest turned manipulative and domineering, the strong female protagonist turned into a submissive damsel in distress, and the action plot anticlimactically ended in a way that didn’t really ring true or hold any emotional resonance. The male love interest clearly wasn't intended to come off as abusive, but he just did for me at about 80% into the book and on. (I'm probably in the minority on that opinion.) I hate giving bad reviews, but this just totally ruined the book for me.

CONTENT WARNINGS: Discussions/descriptions of past sexual assault and interrupted rape attempt (in jail), kidnapping, death, violence, cursing

The plot was intriguing, but the resolution was anticlimactic and not very believable in the end. The plot did keep my interest for most of the book and the serial killer storyline wasn’t excessively creepy or graphically violent enough to be too disturbing or excessive for me. There’s a bunch of Cajun integrated into the story that are a bit confusing at first, but there’s a handy glossary of all the Cajun phrases and their meanings at the end of the book. The book was a bit flat, unrealistic, and stereotypical at times. Injuries are unrealistically fast to heal or not even close to as crippling as they would be in real life. The only notable gay character is kind of stereotypical male gay best friend in fiction: sensitive, perceptive, supportive, loyal, defined by his relationship with the straight main character, and killed off very early on in the story. I could see past these things if the book was otherwise good.

Unfortunately, it seemed to me that the main character’s love interest turned abusive, controlling, and emotionally manipulative. This doesn’t really make them riding off into the sunset together a happy ending. The author clearly didn’t intend for this relationship to come off this way, but it just did for me. It was clearly supposed to seem like the characters had their first big argument, made some mistakes, made up, and worked it out. Later, I’ll explain why, to me, this came off as abusive behavior, followed by further unhealthy relationship dynamics.

The main character, Casi, was a fake psychic that didn’t believe in magic until a serial killer with magical powers targeted her. For the male love interest, we have a cop, Luc, that was quick to believe in magic. There seems to be the assumption that all Cajuns are superstitious and believe in the supernatural. So, the only explanation for this is that Luc’s lack of skepticism is that he’s Cajun. Not really sure I buy that reasoning there, but it’s not a dealbreaker.

The female protagonist, Casi, started out strong, 3-dimensional, and likable, but turned weak, pitiable, and flat by the end of the story. Casi was intelligent, resourceful, interesting, complicated, independent, and haunted by both past trauma and present trust issues. At first, she was far from weak. She was perceptive, street-smart, made her own smart plans, actively executed them, and only obeyed orders when she decided it was the right move. She had an interesting backstory that was handled thoughtfully (at first) and shaped her traits and behaviors (at first). In the beginning, she seemed strong enough to be a main character that saves herself, with a little help from others. By the end, she was a damsel in distress that gets saved by men, who technically had a little help from her. Once she started dating the male love interest, she stopped standing up for herself, got emotionally manipulated into taking orders that she knew were bad ideas. She had started to forgive and excuse her boyfriend’s controlling, domineering, and manipulative behavior. This is dark and sad. It’s certainly not positive or inspiring character growth.

The male love interest, Luc, started out as selfless, protective, supportive, caring, strategic, disciplined, and intuitive. At first he seemed like a great love interest: smart, competent, brave, loyal, intuitive, and a bit of a rebel. He respected Casi’s boundaries, autonomy, and right to make her own choices. He was understanding of her trauma and the fact that he needed to earn her trust if he wanted to get it. He got attached to Casi and grew protective. Then came romance, but not a healthy one.

Despite the time taken on romance, it still felt a bit rushed and abrupt to me. Casi’s reason for not trusting cops was creative, believable, and (unfortunately) realistic. It was compelling to watch her grow to trust certain cops bit by bit as they earned her trust. Once she finally did come to trust Luc though, things went pretty abruptly from her and Luc trusting each other to them being totally in love. I liked them together (at first), but it just felt a bit rushed. Then it just felt rushed into a dark place home to unhealthy, abusive “romantic” relationships with selfish, controlling, emotionally abusive men that only fully show their true colors after they enter into a romantic relationship and try to explain away their harmful behavior as acts of love or protection.

After Luc began dating Casi, he turned alarmingly controlling, abusive, creepy, manipulative, selfish, narcissistic, shortsighted, blinded by hot-headedness, and idiotically impulsive. More alarmingly, the story was still written as if these characters were still likable and admirable.

At first, Luc seemed to treat her like an equal. Later, he treated her as a possession for him to protect however he saw fit. A pretty prized possession that should not cause him undue distress by disagreeing with him, disobeying him, or recklessly and selfishly daring to attempt to protect herself (the way she thinks will be most effective).

THE SHORT VERSION OF THE EVENT THAT RUINED THE BOOK FOR ME:

The first time Casi seriously disagreed with Luc on the smartest plan to save her from the serial killer, Luc resorted to physical intimidation and emotional manipulation to try and get his way. (They were dating at the time.) A third party intervened and he threw a tantrum. Then, he apologized and managed to convince Casi to forgive his troubling behavior by claiming his bad behavior was purely because of how intensely he loved her. (The classic pattern of an abuser: An abuser acts manipulative, controlling, domineering, threatening, or otherwise abusive. Then, they trick the person they abused into thinking the abusive behavior came from love and protectiveness. The tricked person stays. Abusive behavior repeats….)

THE LONG VERSION:

Superb writing!

What a magnetic story in Redeemed By Fire by CJ Bahr. This is book three in the Fire Chronicles series, and I hope it is not the final, but you never know. I really enjoyed the stories that came before this one. Each book is a standalone, but it's always better to read the first one in a series, and the complete series. That's what I do, or at least try to do. But, now about the story. We meet Cassanne and she meets Lucas. So, here we are, in New Orleans, and it is not only lingering with supernatural beings, but one who sets sights on Casi, and happens to also be a serial killer. Yes, a supernatural serial killer, so I guess once they're dead, they may continue on. I loved this story. I love Bahr's writing style, the layers and depths of plotlines, and of course, the characters. They're believable, and since I believe in the supernatural or whatever is there after death, I believed the soul of evil can follow someone into death. Secrets, lies, death and spirits, is just the beginning for this intense, and magnetic read. Read it from cover to cover! This story was very unpredictable. It is always an honor to read this author's books. It's a great story to follow and try to figure out what will happen next. I cannot wait to read more books by this author. Redeemed By Fire is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews.

Rvcd an advanced reader copy from Hidden Gems for giving my two cents. I found this book hard to get into. It took my longer to read than most books but once I got to a certain point there was no going back. Me meet Casi, a relatively newbie to NOLA who has a psychic shop. Her life hasn't been easy and on a late night home she was kidnapped and woke up on a table. Casino managed to get free and attack get assailant and got away. Luc and Vince, some of NOPD are on a case where someone is torturing their victims and taking their penal gland....very gruesome. They may have a lead or a witness to be exact. Casi's bff Mason convinces her to go to the cops and luck would have it the cop has a sexg cajun drawl and he is pretty easy on the eyes. Casi is able to lead them to where the attack took place. Casi is then taken to a safe house where she doesn't feel safe and seeks out Mason. What she doesn't understand is Mason yelling at her to run and take his car...but her kidnapper has found her. Luc and Vince manage to save her again. Something isn't right about this case and it seems to come back to Casi. Will Casi ever feel safe again? Will the Cyclops serial killer come to justice?

A satisfying slow burn serial killer book

Redeemed by Fire builds a strong story revolving around a serial killer in New Orleans and those trying to catch this murderer. The slow burn romance between the two main characters holds throughout without completely taking over. This book does deal with some past trauma and trauma responses, which is worth noting if you are sensitive to these topics. If you like a slow burn romance, murder mysteries, paranormal characters, and happily ever afters, this is a book for you.

Oh, wow…a supernatural serial killer? Yes! Just my kind of read. The setting was excellent and the characters were so real I felt I knew them. Gave me a couple of good shivers, which is a great thing in a book. I love to be scared and this novel did the trick. I am now going to have to read the first in the series. Really enjoyed this one!
