Enquirer names Greater Cincinnati high school athletes of the week, Nov. 10

In a vote that ended Nov. 10, Cincinnati.com readers selected the Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Nov. 5.

Fall winners through Oct. 20 should have received their certificates, which recently were sent to the athletic departments. The remaining certificates will be mailed at the end of the season.

The Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athlete of the Week voting occurs during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports. Here are this week's winners.

Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athlete of the Week

Ohio football team: Princeton – The 12-0 Vikings beat Hamilton 31-14, advancing to the Division I regional semifinals.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana football team: Dayton – The Greendevils pitched their first shutout of the season, opening the Class 1A postseason with a 14-0 win over Bishop Brossart.

Boys fall team: Moeller soccer – The Crusaders claimed a regional championship after beating Centerville 1-0 and St. Xavier 2-0. Moeller is 23-0 with shutouts in 22-straight games.

Girls fall team: McNicholas volleyball – The Rockets are in the state tournament for the first time in program history after beating Newark Catholic and Summit Country Day in the Division III regional tournament.

Ohio boys cross country: Evan Trapp, St. Xavier – He finished in 12th place at the OHSAA Division I state meet with a time of 15:28.60.

Ohio girls cross country: Evelyn Prodoehl, Lakota West – She became the first Cincinnati-area runner to win a Division I individual title in 10 years, doing so in a new Fortress Obetz course record of 17:23.80. 

Ohio big-school football: Connor Cuozzo, Moeller – He led the Crusaders' defense with 11 tackles, nine solo including one for loss. He recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass in the Crusaders’ 10-7 win over St. Xavier in the DI playoffs.

Ohio small-school football: Pierce Ayers, Williamsburg – He had eight catches for 193 yards and two touchdowns, and led the Wildcats’ defense with 10 tackles, two for loss and passes defended in their 52-28 loss to Anna in the DVI playoffs.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana football: Dameyn Anness, Ludlow – He had seven tackles, two sacks, and an interception returned for a touchdown in the Panthers’ win over Bellevue.

Big-school boys soccer: John Michel, Moeller – The senior scored the first goal in the Crusaders’ 2-0 win over St. Xavier in the Division I, Region 4 championship game.

Small-school boys soccer: Quinn Kreider, Summit Country Day – He scored the goal in regulation for the Silver Knights in their 2-1 win over Indian Hill in penalty kicks in the DII regional semifinals.

Big-school girls soccer: Whitney Sluder, Milford – The junior scored the Eagles’ goal in their 2-1 overtime loss to Mount Notre Dame in the Division I regional semifinals.

Small-school girls soccer: Samantha Erbach, Waynesville – The senior scored six goals and assisted on two of the other three in the Spartans’ 9-2 win over Bloom-Carroll in the Division II, Region 8 semifinals, then scored a goal against Summit Country Day in Waynesville’s loss in the regional final to finish her career with 47 goals in her senior season.

Ohio big-school volleyball: Taylor Grubbs, Seton – She had 24 assists, eight digs and an ace in the regional semifinal against St. Ursula.

Ohio small-school volleyball: Maria Billies, McNicholas – She had 49 assists and 16 digs as the Rockets beat Newark Catholic in the Division III regional semifinal.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana volleyball: Ava Tilden, Notre Dame – She was named to the state tournament all-tournament team after posting 39 kills, 17 digs and 13 aces in four games.
