Speakers: Darren Flores and Chandler Bartley of Tango82 Aviation.
Darren Flores founded Tango82 Aviation approximately 15 years ago. He initially started with just himself and one helicopter, primarily focusing on exotic wildlife capture. Today, the company has expanded significantly, operating seven helicopters with four full-time pilots and a total staff of ten. While the business continues to engage in animal capture and survey work, its services have evolved to include flight instruction, tours, charter flights, and more. Tango82 Aviation is based at a hangar on the grounds of Gillespie County Airport, from where they operate daily. Darren and Chandler aim to bring a helicopter for us to view.

Top: Spike Cutler, a volunteer with AOPA's Airport Support Network, discussed their approach to interacting with airport management and local elected officials, advocating for the airport's significance within the community, and safeguarding America’s community airports. As always, Spike brought his trademark engaging and entertaining style to the presentation.
Middle Right: Allan Johnson has generously contributed a substantial assortment of books to EAA 1088. In return, he kindly requests that you consider making a donation to EAA. The books are presently located in the Terminal Building at T82, available for browsing in the lobby. Take a moment to peruse them and see if there's a book that would enhance your personal library.
Middle Left: Tony Lombardi, T82 Airport Manager, gave an update on the upcoming Eclipse and asked for volunteers to assist.
Bottom: EAA 1088's Ray Scholarship Coordinator, Lindy Segall, shared an update on Juli's progress. In case it's not obvious, he is a TCU Grad.

Top: Pancakes owe their existence to the Lipka Boys. A big thank you to Will and Jett for their early morning culinary efforts.
Middle Left: Terry and Wade Gillaspie, organizers of the 55th Swift National Convention and Fly-in, provided an overview of the event and requested volunteers to help with this five-day gathering. If you would like to volunteer please contact Wade at 936-662-8886.
Middle Right: EAA 1088 has upgraded significantly; we now feature a stylish spinning basket for our raffle tickets. The ice tea pitcher has been retired from its duties. Special thanks to Jett Lipka and Larry Hauptrief for announcing the lucky winner.
Bottom: Everyone enjoyed the pancakes.
|
|
Top Left: David Pasahow, creator of the "Spring Cap Collection," unveiled his latest lineup.
Top Right: Joe and Jeri Norris attended there last EAA 1088 meeting until winter. They spend the summers in Wisconsin, so look for them at Oshkosh.
Bottom: Harry Anthony, the chapter Treasurer, and Larry Buchhorn, serving in an advisory capacity, demonstrated their adept multitasking abilities. They welcomed attendees, distributed name badges, managed the sale of raffle tickets and caps from the "new spring collection," and collected chapter dues. Although Larry admirably filled in for Juli, who was occupied with work, he doesn't quite match Juli's charm and charisma. We appreciate all these two do for our chapter.

Bob Fitzpatrick received The Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award. His wife Nancy, assisted by friends, successfully kept it completely confidential until Ryan Newman, the FAASTeam Safety Manager, invited him over to commence the presentation. Bob initially believed he was attending a birthday celebration for a friend. Congratulations to Bob! This recognition is truly significant. As of February 2024, only 8,410 pilots in the United States have achieved this honor.
|
|
The Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award is named in honor of Orville and Wilbur Wright who were two American aviation pioneers credited with inventing, building, and flying the world's first successful motor-operated airplane. The Wright Brothers made the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft with the Wright Flyer on December 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The brothers were also the first to invent aircraft controls that made fixed-wing powered flight possible.

Ever envisaged yourself as a recipient of the distinguished Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award? The qualifications are straightforward. As a candidate, you must be a holder of a U.S. Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) or Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificate. A minimum of 50 years of experience in civil and military piloting or a combination of both piloting and aircraft operations is a must. It's fine if 20 of those years come from U.S. military experience. The start date for calculating these 50 years hinges upon the date of your first solo flight or its military equivalent. And fret not, these 50 years can be accumulated either consecutively or non-consecutively. Your citizenship should be U.S. and it's crucial that you haven't had any airman certificate revoked earlier, as that would disqualify you. To apply, you'll need to adhere to the application procedures detailed in the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award Information Guide. Feel free to reach out to your local FSDO for additional information. Remember, this award is a recognition of your dedication and hard work in aviation.

Fredericksburg FBO Update
The eclipse is done!
It was great to see the airport come together towards a common goal. I want to thank the volunteers who opened their schedules to help the airport handle what was expected to be a large influx of aircraft.
The piston engine turnout was very typical for a spring weekend. The jet side of the eclipse was large. We noticed significant jet operations starting the Wednesday before the eclipse and ending the Tuesday after the eclipse. I am proud of how the FBO staff handled the week but we are for sure tired. Thank you for your business.

Hey Y’All,
I’m conducting a survey (not really), it’s more of a rhetorical question. How many of you use an iPad or other tablet or laptop device to navigate, display traffic, display approach plates, airport diagrams, see the Chart Supplement, see the weather, etc.???
Well, if you answered “Yes” to that, then you are, by definition, using an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB). If you fall into this category, and MANY of Y’All do…….are you legal? If you dig through our most common regulation, Part 91, you won’t find the answer to this question; it’s pretty vague. So how do you know if you can legally use the EFB for all these useful functions in flight?
Fortunately for All Y’All out there, I have the answer. There’s a shiny, brand-new version of the Advisory Circular (AC) 91-78A; Use of Electronic Flight Bags. The really good part is that it is ONLY FIVE PAGES.
Check it out – HERE
NOTE - For any of you that operate commercially (not under Part 91), there may be more hurdles to using the EFB. Get with your Principal Operations Inspector (POI) if you fall into this category.
N-8-4-1-B would like to deviate for weather,
Ryan
