DNF’d very early on. Okay, Story Time. A few years ago Nicholas Cage and John Cusack were making a movie in the town where I lived. It was a big deal for a lot of people because Anchorage, Alaska isn’t exactly a celebrity hotspot.
A woman (probably in her 50s at the time) who I worked with was a big fan of one of them (it’s been awhile, I can’t remember which), to the point that she would listen to rumors of where they were shooting and would go trying to see her ‘boyfriend’ (her word, not mine).
One day she actually found where they were shooting and started yelling out, “Oh, There he is! There’s my boyfriend!” and tried to approach him. She was taken away from the area by security, but we all heard about it the next day because in all reality, it’s a small town, and word gets around.
The second-hand embarrassment I felt hearing that story after the fact is very similar to the way I felt trying to read this book. The idea that a grown woman would actually think that taking a road trip to approach a celebrity who has no idea that she exists because she thinks they’re soulmates is a good idea is just…no. It isn’t cute or quirky. It’s creepy. Seriously.
And the fact that this book is centered around an actual celebrity and dropping in pop culture references to said celebrity makes it even ickier for me. I don’t understand why this couldn’t have been written about a fictional celebrity. I think that could’ve helped me keep going. He even could’ve been inspired by Keanu Reeves. But even then, at the end of the day it’s still creepy bordering on stalking and I just cannot.
I’m sure there are many people who will say I’m overthinking this, and that’s fine. But tell me, if this was a book about a man who found out his favorite actress was about to get married and he decided that he was going to go find her and convince her that they’re soulmates, would you think that was sweet and quirky? Or stalkerish and creepy?

Rounding up from 3.5 because -- Keanu. Also, the cover is fabulous. I am always enticed by gorgeous and relevant cover art. The title this time really sold me as well. For KR fans, there are plenty of movie references and other connections throughout the plot. After Lu sees a tweet about Keanu getting married in 90 days, she decides to find him and get him to marry her instead. True (best friend of Lu's late brother with a secret crush on Lu) goes all in to help with the quest. Along the way there are other fun celebrity cameos as well as some exciting Keanu sightings. Will Lu ever get a chance to plead her case to Keanu? Is True more than just a nutty professor? Is there true love and healing from the pain of her past out there for Lu? I thought this was a bit slow to get started with some extra plot threads that seemed distracting. The finish though was spectacular and saved the book for me. And I love a road trip book. I think fans of Jasmine Guillory will also like this one. So, I still want to know: What is your favorite KR movie? For me it has to be "The Lake House." Definitely going to watch that one again soon.

How to Marry Keanu Reeves in 90 Days by K M Jackson
Contemporary romance. Romantic comedy. Friends to lovers troupe. Alternating chapters POV.
The news that Keanu Reeves is getting married has Lu questioning her life, her goals and her future. If Keanu gets married and then retires, what will Lu have to look forward to in the future?
True has been in love with Lu forever it seems. He will do whatever it takes to make her dreams come true.

This started slow for me. It was a lot of conversation between Lu and Dawn. It really is best if you know a bit about Keanu and his various movies. Once Lu and True went on the first trip to try to find Keanu, it moved better and became a quest worth following. The various situations and other celebrities were amusing. I won’t go into spoilers but often had an issue with Lu and her attitude. There was a reason so will just assure that it is a romance so hea guaranteed.
I admired True and his steadfast loyalty no matter what was thrown his way. He goes above and beyond repeatedly.

“I started to head over toward the pack of Keanus while contemplating a name for them. Herd? Pride? Gaggle? Kaggle?”

I received a copy of this from NetGalley.

I am sad to say this book wasn’t for me. I requested to read this book because I loved the vibrant cover and ridiculously fun and cheesy title. But unfortunately, the book itself didn’t do anything for me. I want it known that her obsession with Keanu Reeves didn’t bother me. I knew from the synopsis that was the main plot point and honestly, even though it is a little creepy/much I found that part to be fun! There were other aspects about the book I had issues with but due to spoilers won’t say them all. The story was slow to start and get moving. The writing wasn’t my favorite due to pacing and how unnecessarily wordy it was. I couldn’t connect with the main character or any of the side characters. The main character was extremely immature and her outlook on things always seemed to be unrealistic. I’m all for dreaming big but sometimes you have to know when to say when. She was very naive which was kind of frustrating as a reader to deal with. It was also hard to believe that this character was in her mid forties because her actions and voice seemed more like an early twenty year old.

One thing I did love and enjoy about this book was the friendship between Bethany and Dawn. They’ve been best friends since high school and I could totally feel their connection when they were together! They acted and treated one another how best friends should. Their banter and jokes were fun and brought a much needed breath of fresh air to this story. I enjoy friends to lovers stories but this one made me yawn more than it made me smile. I couldn’t feel the chemistry between Bethany and True. Their conversations annoyed me and made me roll my eyes multiple times. One thing I did love was how True treated Bethany. Even if he was jealous or against something he put those thoughts aside to be there for her.

Overall, I didn’t hate this book, I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked. It was just okay. I think if the pacing, flow, and main character were improved for the better I would have had a better reading experience. With that being said, like always these are just my thoughts. I can see why other readers would totally love a fun over the top cliche story like this one.

This book was a big let down... I thought it sounded super cute and fun, but I wasn't a fan.

The writing wasn't great, the characters were all one-dimensional (and annoying), and the story just didn't feel real or believable. There was such an opportunity for this to be awesome, but it fell really flat. Even Keanu didn't feel like the Keanu we all know and love!

Honestly, if I hadn't spent money on this book, I would have DNFed it.

The title leads you to believe that this is a hilarious rom-com about fandom…and it is. But it’s also a touching story about grief and friendship. Lu, our heroine, learns that Keanu Reeves, all around great guy and perpetual bachelor, is about to get married, and she jumps in the car with her best friend, True. A road trip, some truly hilarious situations and, well…Keanu, this book hit all the right notes for me.

Oh Man. No. This was so cringe it hurt. The whole plot made me feel so embarrassed for the main character and the author. It read like fanfic and I barely got through it.

The ridiculous plot is about Bethany Lu who finds out that Keanu Reeves is getting married in 90 days and decides to go on a mission to convince him not to and to marry her instead. As her side kick she brings along the man she’s been in love with since forever and along the way they both find each other.

My bigger issue than even the plot was how the characters talked to each other. Is this how friends of 20+ years communicate? By battling every time they’re in the room together? Just reading Lu’s internal monologue and how snide and jabby she is with her BEST friends made me feel exhausted for them. Why is everything so hard with her? It was mind boggling and frustrating.

I was very glad when this book ended.

So, I tried, but ultimately DNF'ed when I realized the main character was definitely going to try to find Keanu and try to get him to talk to her, and maybe marry her?

I don't know, it didn't sit right with me and the more I thought about the title and the premise, and how I'd feel if it was a cis man main character & a title How to Marry Sandra Bullock in 90 Days, and I couldn't do it.

This was… a strange book. When I first read the blurb I honestly thought it sounded silly and fun, so I was looking forward to it. Bethany is in love with Keanu Reeves so when she hears that he’s getting married, she jumps into a car, takes her guy best friend with her, and road trips across the country to find Keanu and stop him from marrying someone so... he can… marry her.

The thing I couldn’t get over was that Bethany is a full grown adult. She’s 40 and I couldn’t believe that she would actually act this way. I did like the friends to lovers romance a bit between her and Tru, the guy she’s road tripping with, though sometimes I got annoyed about how deliberately oblivious Bethany is about his feelings and her own for him.

This sounded good in theory and I really liked the hero's character, but overall it didn’t work out as well as I hoped it would.

this is the worst book i've ever read in my entire life. i can't even fucking tell you what this book is about, because it makes absolutely no goddamn sense! spoiler alert: no, it's not self insert fanfiction about keanu reeves. except... it kind of is? if you suspend belief and reality, maybe.

lu is a professor (?) with an obsession with keanu reeves. one day she sees a clickbait article about keanu reeves getting married in 90 days. lu, who is over 40, gets so irrationally upset over this. her coworker, true, comes over to talk to her and she just complains about his worn out shoes. she whines and bitches about keanu reeves getting married, then gives true a pair of cotton socks and begs for a thank you. this portion is about 20% of the novel.

without any transition, any explanation, or any tact, suddenly we shift to a third person pov and we follow essie, who just took a job as a chef for a wealthy ceo on some type of ship or yacht. written in the style of trope-filled fanfiction, essie falls in love with her boss, ross. fucking ross. essie can't take any criticism about her food and cries like a bitch. ross and essie kiss, "make love," and act like dumbass children for a long time. ross decides to quit his business or something so he exits the voyage early (how do you leave a ship at sea? without like? a plane?) and leaves a note for essie that thanks her for her hard work and sends her home. then, it's new year's eve, and essie is at home with her mom all sad because she's alone. knock knock. who's there? ross. happy ending. this portion takes up 70% of the novel.

so here's where i got confused. i had assumed that the story happening in real time was about lu being a stupid bitch and also being blind to the fact that true loves her. i was under the assumption that lu was writing the story about essie and ross. i wrongly thought that we would come back to lu and true eventually; that maybe after she wrote some self insert keanu reeves fanfiction that she would realize that she had feelings for true.

nope that's it. nastya, where's the last 10%? can you not count?

when the cringe ass cruise ship/yacht/whatever story ended, there was a bit about reading an except for some new book. so i read the excerpt, thinking that lu had written the ship story and this new excerpt. wrong, it was literally an excerpt from jackson's new book.

so... what happened? why did it happen? where is the rest of the book? and HOW IN THE FUCK DID THIS GET PUBLISHED??? what an insult to keanu reeves. what an insult to adults who don't talk and act like they are fourteen.

the title? clickbait, literally. the writing? somehow worse than sixteen year olds who wrote reylo fanfiction on tumblr after the force awakens came out.

i would give this negative stars if i could.

Bethany Lu is obsessed with Keanu Reeves and has been ever since his movies became a source of comfort to her after her brother died. When he finds out he's engaged to be married she's ready to have a meltdown. She must chase him down and convince him that she's his true soulmate. Bethany enlists the help of her best friend Truman and goes on a road trip determined to come face to face with her crush.

I started reading it physically and it wasn't really gripping me from the beginning so I ended up switching to the audiobook. I think the audiobook really made the difference for me. The narrator, Tyla Collier was great and really elevated the book in some parts where it fell flat. I don't think I would've had the same experience reading it physically. There were some scenes that were a little cringe for me especially the encounters with celebrities. Along the journey Bethany Lu runs into popular celebrities who are not Keanu and it just felt awkward and forced instead of fun. When Keanu does finally appear it's so heavy handed and really doesn't feel like the Keanu we know from interviews or even like the parodies he's played of himself.

Tru carried this book. He was really the best friend a woman could have. And he had the patience of a saint to put up with Bethany Lu. While I appreciate seeing more characters in their 40s in romance this character did not feel like she was in her 40s. The concept is a hard enough sell but she was very immature and her reactions often came across as younger. And then she seemed to be at a stage in her career where she didn't seem to know where it was going or what her plan was. Most men would not accompany a woman on a trip to meet the guy she's crushing on when they want her for themselves. Tru was very supportive of her because he realized she needed to heal from her past trauma. I enjoyed the chapters from his POV. I like friends to lovers stories so seeing them fall in love with each other while on the road was a highlight for me.

A slow starter and some rocky moments throughout but a quick listen and Keanu fans will love all the movie references.

I received this book from Hachette in exchange for an honest review.

I might round up to two stars only for the cover art. The main characters were supposed to be 40 but their internal monologues and behavior felt so immature that I kept reading in disbelief. This just was not the cute romance I was expecting because I got so stressed out over how awfully the characters were treating each other.

The latest rom-com from K.M. Jackson, How to Marry Keanu Reeves in 90 Days , is a sweet, fun, friends-to-lovers rom-com about celebrity obsessions.

Many of us have crushes on celebrities, but for artist Bethany Lu Carlisle, “crush” doesn’t quite describe the feelings she has for Keanu Reeves, and has for years now. But when news breaks that he’s getting married in 90 days, Lu doesn’t know how to handle it.

What do you do when the man of your dreams, whom you know would be yours if he only knew you existed, is actually going to be someone else’s? For Lu, there’s only one thing to do: drive cross-country, track him down, and convince him she’s the one for him. Logical, right?

With her best friend Truman willing to accompany her on this adventure, they set off to stop Keanu from making the mistake of his life. Of course, True wouldn’t mind if Lu realized the biggest mistake of her life would be passing up a chance with him, not Keanu, but could she think of him as more than a forever friend?

This was a fun, sweet, sexy, and wacky romp. It gets a little silly at times but it also touches a bit on moving past traumatic times in your life. A fun Book of the Month Club pick!

How To Marry Keanu Reeves in 90 Days. Okay, when I first heard the title then read the synopsis I had no idea where this book was going to take me but I was ready!

After hearing her beloved Keanu is getting married, 40 year old Bethany Lu is distraught and in a fit. So, naturally, True has to stop this wedding. He is her true love, after all. Her childhood best friend, Truman (True), is there to help Lu and they decide to find Keanu and stop the wedding. It’s impossible to not root for True after seeing their friendship and how True has had a crush on Lu for a while. From New York to Los Angeles, Lu and True had all the adventures and some crazy situations.

Told in first person with dual points of view, the reader is able to have better insight on where True and Lu’s emotions were. The banter and chemistry between Lu and True was humorous but at times it was frustrating, but real. While the adventures and cameos are hilarious, this story is much deeper and the journey becomes one of grief and healing. One of the many things I loved about True and Lu is True never judges Lu for how she is coping and never invalidates her feelings. Jackson combines this truly hilarious story with difficult and heavy emotions all while somehow maintaining a romantic comedy.

How to Marry Keanu Reeves in 90 Days is a ridiculous, adventurous, hilarious, best friends-to-lovers, romantic comedy about friendship, grieving, healing and hope.

Serves me right for reading a book < 3 stars on Goodreads 😂 The concept in theory was fun but the execution was just not there…Lu came across as immature, overprivileged and whiny, and the way she treated True for years was terrible. I honestly couldn’t tell what True saw in her - he did all (and I mean all) the fighting for their relationship single-handedly.

I get that we as readers were supposed to read between the lines and see that Lu’s lifelong immaturity (and reluctance to take the next step with True) was a coping mechanism in response to the death of her little brother when they were teens. But this explanation didn’t make her seem any more sympathetic…it really felt the opposite. Like, coping with grief by fucking around for 20 years on dad’s dime? Super relatable…

I was sad that the Jason Momoa/Lisa Bonet cameo is now outdated 😂 but the other celebrity cameos and loads of Keanu movie references were the main bright spot in this otherwise oddly-heavy romcom.

I really thought this book would be funny. With that name? Should be a hoot. It should be a good ol meme. Instead I want to die. Instead it was like reading a wattpad self insert fanfic from 2010. True is a fucking saint for putting up with Lu’s behaviour. He deserves better. I cant even find anything fun in this because the characters really just annoyed me to no end. Not even Keanu saved this.

This was a fun read that had me laughing out loud quite a few times. If you are a fan of Keanu Reeves, and honestly - who isn't, you'll get a kick out of this book. Talk about next level fan girl, seriously not only does Bethany "Lu" have throw pillows with his face on them but she is about to travel cross country to see him....oh and to stop his wedding. LOL

This was a light read which was just what I needed at the moment. I loved the relationship between all three friends, Lu, Tru, and Dawn, who have been friends since they met thirty years ago in high school. They are now in their 40s, which I had to keep reminding myself of because at times Lu didn't act her age, or even close to it which I found annoying...hence the 4 stars instead of 5, and each successful in their chosen careers.

The chemistry between Lu and Tru was great once they finally acted on it because you could feel it simmering there for a while. If you are looking for a story that has cosplay, and tons of different actors pop up throughout this is the read for you. Hello Chris Evans, Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet, just to name a few!

I did receive an early paperback copy of this book from Forever imprint, Grand Central Publishing but didn't have a chance to read it before it's release so I decided to purchase the audiobook and glad I did because Tyla Collier did a fabulous job with bringing this story to life.

I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a book with a Friends to Lovers or Road Trip Theme to it, or if you enjoy Contemporary Romance this would be for you too.

Happy Reading!!!

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. I love stories that are about mature women. Heck yeah for a 40 year old woman as our heroine! That being said, our heroine is a complete mess. What grown woman has a breakdown over her movie star crush getting married?? One who has a lot of unresolved grief and trauma. Using this shock as a way to A) meet her lifetime movie crush and B) try to grow up and move forward is really smart. The strange adventures that ensue are wild, improbable, and hilarious. There were times I had a hard time staying in the book, because it was so improbable, but I did enjoy the book overall.
Also, Keanu is the best.

This is a funny, relaxing, enjoyable book as mid-forty somethings "come of age" (at 45 HA!HA! makes them even funnier!) and map their futures with or without marrying the movie star. I listened to the audio book and found it relaxing and enjoyable. It is easy to "second guess" the characters as they navigate their relationships. It is non-threatening, fun, and as I listened I found myself laughing right out loud.

When I saw this book up on NetGalley, I immediately wanted to read it because Keanu Reeves. Unfortunately, my excitement quickly turned to confusion and annoyance. Bethany, True and Dawn have been friends since high school. The three are now in their 40s and living in New York. Bethany sees a tweet one day about Keanu Reeves getting married in 90 days and it sends her spiraling down the what am I doing with my life/I have to stop this road.

What follows after that is a series of silly adventures trying to find Keanu Reeves and talk him out of getting married. The different Keanu references and events were fun. The random celebrity appearances along the way seemed odd to me and honestly, the only character I really liked was Dawn and this was not her story. I can suspend belief like a champ but as the book went on, things got more and more far fetched and it honestly took me right out of the story. There's a tragedy in the trio's past that is sort of discussed in bits and pieces (see content warning under spoiler). Bethany and True obviously have feelings for each other but all the sniping and arguing and nonsense on the road to love was annoying and I felt like I was reading teenagers, not grown ass adults.

I also found a lot of the dialogue almost as streaming of consciousness which isn't fun for me to read when it's what happens in my head constantly.

The book releases on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Many thanks to Forever (Grand Central) Publishing and NetGalley for an advance copy.

This book had a fun premise that I was excited for. It unfortunately didn't live up to my expectation emotionally but I did enjoy all the Keanu references and the little celeb encounters thrown in. The Keanu obsession was a bit weird considering the MCs age but I just went with it. Things I liked - the friends to lovers storyline (one of my fave tropes), the dual POV and Tru. Unfortunately, I really felt like there was a lot left unexplored emotionally. I wanted more and felt it had the potential for more because there are a lot of things hinted at with their past and the loss of a loved one that was left at a surface level. I get not weighing down a romance but if it's part of the story then it should be fully explored and I felt like it wasn't.

How To Marry Keanu Reeves In 90 Days is a fun, unique read, about love and fulfilling dreams.

Bethany Lu is obsessed with Keanu Reeves. So much so, that when she sees he’s getting married in 90 days, she’s sent into a a flurry of rash decisions including holding off a business deal, and taking a road trip with her best friend True in hopes of finding Keanu and stopping his wedding. But sometime during this road trip adventure, she starts to wonder if the man of her dreams was really by her side all along.

I was drawn in by the fun cover and Keanu. I mean, have y’all seen Speed? One of my first celebrity crushes. And I really thought all the Keanu references in this story were fun. True was a highlight, and I always love a roadtrip story. So there were some pluses. But some of this story just didn’t execute as well as I had hoped for me. It felt like there was a lot packed in but it was all a bit disconnected. The biggest thing for me though was that they didn’t feel their stated ages. Bethany especially. And it made it difficult for me to connect. This is a story that you really need to suspend reality, and just have fun with. If you can do that I think you’ll enjoy it!

What the WHAT!!! How to Marry Keanu Reeves in 90 Days was an overwhelming obsession story about Keanu Reeves. And I enjoyed him as much as many others, but it was just TOO MUCH!! I was not too fond of Bethany and her stalker-like tendencies and not seeing what was in front of her face the entire time. I enjoy some pop culture references, but this whole story was just over the top, and I found myself zoning out on celebrity name drops and appearances. For a book labeled as a romantic comedy, once again, I find that this author and her team missed the mark.

Ugh, this book was painful! I thought it sounded super cute and was hoping it would be funny (plus, Keanu!), but it's a big nope on this one. The writing wasn't great, the characters were all one-dimensional and they were so annoying! I'd skip this one.
