On behalf of our more than 10,000 members, the Coalition of Edmonton Civic Unions offers our sincere condolences to the families and colleagues of Constable Travis Jordan and Constable Brett Ryan, who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty early this morning.

Many of our members interact with the Edmonton Police Service every day to deliver the public services that keep Edmontonians healthy, active, and safe. We work together to provide those essential services to the community and a safe environment for employees so that everyone can return home safe at the end of the workday.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen today for these two constables. The CECU thanks Constables Jordan and Ryan for their service and asks all our members to keep them in their thoughts in the days and weeks ahead. This will be a difficult time for many, so let’s be compassionate and understanding as we continue to work and provide these essential services for all Edmontonians.

We also encourage members struggling with this tragic event to reach out and talk to someone. There are resources available through the City (whether that’s a peer support team, the City Chaplain, or the Employee and Family Assistance Program) and your union stands by to help any member who needs assistance.
