Companies House probes Vertu Motors record changes

The Companies House is investigating how information on Vertu Motors was falsified on its website

So far, it said it had found no issues with its systems and it is working with Vertu to find out what happened.

This week Vertu revealed that some information on the website had been falsified, including the resignation of two directors and the addition of a non-existent director.

In a statement Companies House said: “Our preliminary findings have identified no issues with Companies House systems in relation to this matter and we will continue to work with the company to resolve it.

“We will continue to investigate and take appropriate action if there is evidence that an offence has been committed.

“The new Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, which achieved Royal Assent last week, will significantly enhance the role and powers of the Registrar of Companies.

“The Act will enable us to query, reject and, in some cases, remove information that seems incorrect or inconsistent with information already on the register.”

Falsifying information on the Companies House can result in a two year prison sentence and or hefty fines.
