Winter Witchery: 5 Teas for the Season

Winter Witchery: 5 Teas for the Season December 14, 2022

With an additional heap of intention, teas become small potions in cute cups. Each herb used in these deliciously crafted beverages has a metaphysical correspondence, but many of them have medicinal benefits as well.

In my own practice, simplicity is best. Teas fit so effortlessly into my routine that it’s a simple way to bring magic into the mundane. I love a good multipurpose spell, and with the weather growing colder, this is the optimal time to bust out some trusted recipes.

I’ll provide the magical and medicinal properties of these teas along with inspiration, but I’ll also provide a quick reference list.  While I know these to be beneficial for my own uses, you can customize these teas with your specific intentions.

Apple Cinnamon Tea

Medicinally, Apple Cinnamon Tea has several benefits. This tea is loaded with antioxidants, assists with lowering inflammation, and has antibacterial as well as antifungal properties thanks to cinnamon. Also, there’s some evidence that this tea can assist with symptoms of PMS and cramping.

Metaphysically, this tea can be used to inspire success, foster feelings of love and contentment, and generate healing. Apples are beneficial for love and healing, whereas cinnamon is excellent for success, power, and protection. The directions below include green tea, which is great for protection and love, but this can be substituted with other teas.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Water
  • 1 Sliced Apple
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 Green Tea Bag

Directions:

  1. Add apple and cinnamon to the water and bring water to a boil
  2. Allow ingredients to simmer for 5 to 10 minutes
  3. Place the tea bag in a cup and add hot water. Allow the tea to steep according to the packaging directions. You may strain the ingredients before serving if desired.

Spiced Tea

Spiced teas are excellent for boosting our immunity during these winter months. There are several different types of spiced tea. In fact, some of the other teas on this list fall under the umbrella term “spiced teas,” but for conciseness’ sake, this is what I refer to this tea as.

This tea makes use of ginger, which is excellent for soothing an upset stomach and contains antioxidants. The cinnamon, cloves, and pepper used in this recipe are also wonderful sources of antioxidants. Many of the ingredients in this tea are thought to assist with boosting immunity, which is very helpful come flu season.

When I craft this tea for myself, I lean into the protective properties of each ingredient from both a spiritual and practical perspective. Cinnamon, cloves, and pepper each correspond with protection. I also use black tea with this recipe, which is excellent for courage and strength.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Water
  • 2 Black Tea Bags
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 6 Cloves
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 1 Tablespoon Sliced Ginger (1”)
  • 1 Pinch of Black Peppercorn

Directions:

  1. Bring water to a boil.
  2. Add ingredients and allow it to steep for approximately 10 minutes.
  3. Strain ingredients if desired.

Mint Tea

Mint has several medicinal properties, including helping with digestive problems and having a soothing effect when we have a cold or flu. This herb is also a good source of both antioxidants as well as vitamin A.

From a magical perspective, mint is a great herb to use to draw forth prosperity, protection, and healing. Depending on my needs, I use this tea to promote my internal healing or as a quick brew for prosperity, and I set my intentions before I brew it.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Water
  • 15+ Fresh Mint Leaves (2 Teaspoons Dried)

Directions:

  1. Add mint leaves into a saucepan or teapot.
  2. Bring it to a boil and allow it to simmer for approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Strain ingredients if desired.

Orange Ginger Tea

Orange Ginger Tea is another tea that is packed with nutritional and medicinal benefits. Orange is high in vitamin C and assists in boosting our immune system. Ginger is rich in antioxidants and beneficial for soothing an upset stomach. This can be a great tea when we’re feeling under the weather.

The metaphysical properties of oranges include bringing forth happiness, good fortune, and prosperity. The ginger in this tea is also wonderful for success and prosperity. I often use this tea when I need an extra helping of luck or need to see the digits in my account rise.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Water
  • 2-3 Orange Slices
  • 1 Tablespoon Sliced Ginger (1”)

Directions:

  1. Bring water and ginger to a boil.
  2. Add orange slices to the teacup and allow the tea to steep for 10 minutes.
  3. Strain ingredients if desired.

Lemon Honey Echinacea Tea

This is my go-to tea whenever I feel myself beginning to drag or notice a slight tickle in my throat. The amount of times this tea has saved me from impending doom is more than a product of chance.

Lemon is rich in vitamin C and helps to boost our immune system. Echinacea is another immune booster and a great source of antioxidants. Honey is another source of antioxidants and has been known to soothe sore throats when need be.

Metaphysically, these ingredients combine to make a small, potent potion for successful ventures with an additional layer of protection and sweetening. I use this tea in the mornings that I need a little extra motivation to get things ticked off my to-do list.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Water
  • 1 Teaspoon Echinacea
  • 1 Sliced Lemon
  • 1 Teaspoon Honey

Directions:

  1. Bring water to a boil and pour over the ingredients in a cup.
  2. Allow the tea to steep for 10 minutes.
