So, a 22 year old kid just won an HC stage race, but all anyone in rbr
land wants to do is squabble about Terri Shiavo and other OT issues.
This has got to be a new low point.

Anyone who wants to see Contador in action should download the Mont
Faron stage from Paris-Nice at alt.binaries.multimedia.sport. An
exciting race and great coverage of the entire climb. Thanks "Ed".

I had Contador figured for an great new climber, but now it seems he can
time trial some too. And he can handle his bike too. All this just ten
months after brain surgery. How far can this guy go?

More on Contador at procycling.com:
http://www.procycling.com/news.aspx?ID=1008

And then there's Tom Danielson coming close to a first euro win. That's
news too.

And the first person to say "HC isn't what it used to be" gets kill filed.

Bret Favré,

Calm down. Let me show you how a pro analyzes those results.

There weren't many big players going full gas. The structure of the Pro
Tour means D1 teams are going to save themselves for the PT races. SC
isn't one of them. The "HC" designation means nothing, quarterback.

And drop the "22 year old" wonderkid bullshit too unless you want me to
give you a lecture about Gilles Dion.

The only news here is Contador didn't come out of his pedals again.
Danielson will either live or die by the Giro. That's when all the
Italians show up doped to the gills and the Gucci FIVE-O kick in the
hotel doors of riders at 5:00 a.m.

Take care,

I'll be there for the first lap. After that, we'll see how it goes.

No, you people don't get it.

And how come you never watched my back on the velodrome physics issue?
You're a physics man.

The D1 designation isn't even a designation.

It's a reflection of the larger society - all Terri all the time.
But don't worry, we can always get lower in July.

I guess the thing about surprise winners of Spanish stage races is,
you never quite know if the guy is the next Heras, Olano, or the
next Aitor Gonzalez (who actually used to win races), or the next
Juan Antonio Pecharroman - whatever happened to _that_ guy?

It's the same hyperbole you fucks do with Cunego and Simoni...and then
when they show up to race the Tour against Lance, Ullrick et al, they
end up looking like frauds who were punk'd by Demi's jackhammer.

Yes, well, hype is a given in a sponsor-driven business. That's one
thing all those pre-race features and hypotheticals in places like
Cyclingnews are about. You can't just write "Everybody sucks, Lance
is going to stomp them" over and over, except in rbr.

As for Pecharroman (Jose, sorry, not Juan), Patrick Lefevere wrote
him a fat contract after several showings in one week races. Perhaps
Lefevere should have written him a fat, shitty contract instead.

<snip>

Not only can they write that everyone else sucks (relatively), they have
an obligation to do it. Most of the pre-race reports are beyond hype -
they're flat out lies that show the people who write them have no idea
what they're talking about.

The epitome of this had to be all that queerness about Simoni possibly
challenging Lance in the Tour back in 2003. Anybody who actually
believed that hype is gay.

The same people who believe Simoni was a contender for the Tour also
believe that if Eddy Merckx rode today, he would be riding the last 30
miles off the front of every pro race, just like he did agaiinst the
factory workers in 1970's. The reality is if Eddy Merckx rode today, he
would be Lance's domestique on the Discovery Team.

Thanks,

Magilla
