SUICIDE.
[bt telegraph ] Wellington, To-day. The Rev. Mr Sherriffs,. a Presbyterian minister froth Waipukurau/ ; Napier, committed suicide at eight o’clock this morning, at the residence of ; Mr John McLean, Newton. At the hour mentioned the door of his was burst open, when the deceased was found hanging froth a bedpost by,a strap, and quite dead.. It is believed he was Suffering from temporary insanity, and that the reason of his visit here was to be placed fin'an asylum. ~]An inquest is to be held. ■, Later. • The Rev. Wiiliam Sherriffs, who committed suicide, was aged 42, and a native of Aberdeen. He had been mentally depressed for some time, and came here for the benefit of his health. He leaves a wife and six children: at Waipukurau. 1 He formerly resided at Blenheim.
