An interesting note in Alpha Strike: because any hit can deal motive damage, the vehicle crit table is actually far more forgiving than the 'Mech table. 'Mechs can dodge crits if they get lucky and roll a 5 or a 9, but tanks dodge critical damage on a 6, 7 or 8.

Aahh!! this answers a question i've been meaning to ask - I think.

Is this the way alpha strike makes tanks and vehicles a little less good than mechs? I was wondering if the whole 'sneeze and a vehicle gets crits' thing was done away with or not.

Galatea 3-4 Dustball (Assassination)

“They’re through my armor,” Cherry Bomb announced as her Vindicator’s sword cleaved through the barrel of the Bulwark’s autocannon and punched straight through the armor into the main body. She must’ve hit something important because the whole thing came apart, freeing the blade of her sword without any extra effort.

“My armor’s gone too,” Hardpoint announced; only to append: “Target destroyed. Scratch one Manticore.”

“Primary target’s down; and Drake helped me finish the Thunderbolt." Raniya announced. "Might be time to leave; those Kamakiris are playing defensive but the Tread of Doom has a lot of Hawk Moth IIs. We have to assume they’re vectoring some our way. If we get too shredded, they might get bold enough to chase us.”

Woof. Now that i've read the turn, thats an expensive hit on the mad cat. Gonna need salvage to buff that out :(

Nice shot on the valkyrie, crab! Didn't even need the tag to land.

Also, am I understanding Sprinting correctly, and that you can trade your weapon attacks for more ground speed?, and then speed demon gives you more move on top of that?
So I think the mat cat would go 6 base, minus 1 for current overheat, so 8, then +2 hexes, so move 10 if I just wanted to haul away?

Also, just a heads up that I caught an error: this should have been a hit due to short range c3i from the preta.
3 skill + 0 range +1 jumped +1 tm = 5 rolled 5.
(i think this in turn means the preta digns the backup target manticore for the same shot instead as an easy fix?)

I think that I'm going to have to fight my way out to get Raniya off the map in one piece.

(ptn, if we can in fact retreat off the north side of the map instead of just the south side/deployment zone, please do say so!)

I haven't quite decided where to go, but I spotted a good move for the battle lance: the executioner jumping to 0416 has great odds to take out the rawhide by itself.

maybe have the kheper work on the vtols?

Raniya can jump over to the side and dash off without having much that can shoot back at them, 2510 is a good spot on the side, if ptn allows side withdrawls they can break off right there, Really we need to have everyone harass the vtols and keep them off, the jaegermech and centurion don't have jump and can't keep up with Raniya as is. and while I am falling back I am not completely gone if they try to be cheeky and advance on you I Can still cut them up pretty badly if they walk into my fire lines.

Battle lance is fairly intact and should probably move forward to pressure them from the side while we withdraw on our side, then start falling back themselves. Taking out that rawhide would be a sweet catch,

And of course your jackalopes are mostly intact and should probably be pressuring the vtols etc to try to draw fire from Raniya

Galatea 3-5 Dustball (Assassination)

“drat,” Sloan cursed, as fist-sized pieces of Hardpoint’s Mad Cat pinged off the Shadow Hawk’s armor. A graze from the Manticore’s PPC must have found one of Hardpoint’s ammo bins, the shattered wreckage of the Mad Cat had already toppled in a stand of red weed. He returned fire at the enemy vehicle, but it twisted and swiveled on its treads and most of his fire went wide. Only Taboo’s Preta scored a few reasonable hits on the rust-red battle tank.

“New contacts on short-range radar,” Kym announced nervously. “Strike VTOLs incoming!”

It happens to us all, I am going to continue to fall back with my wounded, Black knight is going to take a piece of high ground since it still has armor and duel with any vtols that come into my area, we need to get Raniya free before they get shot down, it Raniya is within short range of those kamikiris they can't 1 shot her, the unwounded could still roll forward some to cover for them as well. 0910 might be a good place to play some LOS games. Extreme range is aerospace only so it's not worth worrying about. It's also a +8 ToHit, and usually takes an entire flight to rack up a single point of damage.

In addition to strafing, striking, and bomb runs, one of the optional uses of Aerospace fighters is just flat-out eliminating a VTOL from the map.

No, it's just a normal range increment. Out to 36" IIRC. It exists because AeroTech uses fixed range increments and ranges in AeroTech are 10x longer than the ones in BattleTech.

Some AC/2s had ranges longer than AeroTech's long range bracket so they got to be 'extreme' range weapons that're pretty much only useful for a small handful of light fighters flying in a squadron trying to deal capital damage to DropShips without getting instantly murdered.

Adjacent terrain always blocks line of sight, but if it's non-adjacent they're at height 7 so there's a good chance they'll shoot over everything.
