Enquirer names Greater Cincinnati high school athletes of the week, Dec. 1

In a vote that ended Dec. 1, Cincinnati.com readers selected the Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Nov. 26.

Fall winners through Oct. 20 should have received their certificates, which recently were sent to the athletic departments. The remaining certificates will be mailed at the end of the season.

The Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athlete of the Week voting occurs during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports. Here are this week's winners.

Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athlete of the Week

Girls basketball team: Princeton – The defending Division I state champs began the season with a 69-58 victory at Winton Woods on Nov. 26.

Boys winter team: St. Xavier hockey – The Bombers are 7-2-1 to start the season, including a 4-1 trip to the Bishop Noll Invitational with a 3-2 victory against Pittsburgh North Catholic in the championship final.

Girls winter team: Wilmington bowling – The Hurricane beat Batavia 2,413-2,201 on Nov. 20 and Blanchester 2,203-1,498 on Nov. 22.

Football team: Cooper – After falling to Highlands 58-51 on Sept. 22, Cooper avenged the loss with a 17-15 victory against the Bluebirds in the Class 5A state semifinals.

Ohio football: Kyler Paul, Moeller – He had 12 tackles (six solo), two tackles for loss, and a touchdown run on offense in the Crusaders' loss to Springfield in the Division I state semifinals.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana football: Mason Stanton, Cooper – He made four tackles and had the game-sealing interception to send the Jaguars to their first state championship since 2012.

Ohio big-school girls basketball: Violet Shuluga, Milford – She tied her career high with 25 points in a season-opening win over St. Ursula

Ohio small-school girls basketball: Miya Nance, Wilmington – The freshman opened her high school career with a bang, putting up 18 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals against Bethel-Tate.

Ohio boys bowling: Aidan Stelter, Anderson – He shot a 243 in his first game of the season.

Ohio girls bowling: Shelby Luebbering, St. Ursula – She averages 190 through two games to lead the GGCL with a high game of 201.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys bowler: Dylan Davis, Covington Catholic – He has the high game of the season with a 267 and has led the Colonels to a 25-10 record through five matches.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls bowler: Izzy Sears, Boone County – She has the third-high series of the season with 385 and has led the Rebels to a 12-2 record through two matches.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys swimmer/diver: Wilson Robling, Cooper – He took second in the 200-yard freestyle and helped two relay teams to third-place finishes at the Flying Turkey Invitational.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls swimmer/diver: Clara Murray, Cooper – She came in fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle at the Flying Turkey Invitational.

Girls wrestling: Sophie Anderson, Walton-Verona – Anderson picked up three pinfall wins to reach the 132-pound podium at the Centre Parkway Classic on Nov. 25.

Ice hockey: Justin Lux, Mason – In six games this year, Lux has 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points.
