PAY-PER-MILE TAX vote today in Olympia. Help us STOP IT. Join me/us Tues, Dec 16, 12:30pm, Olympia (WSDOT HQ Bldg, 310 Maple Park Ave SE, Nisqually Conference Room). The Washington State Transportation Commission votes @ 1pm but THEY HAVE TO LISTEN TO PUBLIC TESTIMONY BEFORE they vote. Wherever you live, get here. I welcome the chance to meet you and thank you for representing the voters who overwhelmingly passed I-976 to bring back our $30 tabs.
Seattle went 76% no on I-976's $30 tabs meaning 76% of them voted to re-support dishonest vehicle taxes and re-support Seattle Sound Transit (60,952 yes, 192,512 no).
Their high turnout made it seem close but it wasn't.
52% of voters in non-Seattle King County went for $30 tabs meaning 52% of them voted against Sound Transit (194,577 yes, 182,462 no).
58% of voters in Snohomish County went for $30 tabs meaning 58% of them voted against Sound Transit (115,602 yes, 82,987 no).
66% of voters in Pierce County went for $30 tabs meaning 66% of them voted against Sound Transit (134,604 yes, 70,102 no).
59% of voters in the 38 counties outside King went for $30 tabs -- voters in 6+ counties went 70% plus (800,220 yes, 561,777 no).
This is Seattle versus everyone else.
In a democracy, it's one person, one vote.
But here, 192K no votes in Seattle superseded the 995K yes voters outside Seattle.
That's a 5 to 1 ratio. That means for every Seattle voter that supports dishonest car tab taxes, there are 5 voters outside Seattle who oppose them.
That means for every Seattle voter that supports Seattle Sound Transit, there are 5 voters outside Seattle who oppose it.
But 5 to 1 wasn't enough.
Because in a King County courthouse with a King County judge with plaintiff King County when a former King County Councilman (now AG) intentionally sabotaged I-976 by keeping the case in King County, the Seattle vote carried the day.
This is what tyranny looks like.
Stalin at least stuffed the ballot box to win the vote.
But here, in Washington state, we had an election where the pigs at the trough had $5 million, forced taxpayers to pay for anti-976 mailers, had the media on their side, had every advantage possible -- but lost handily.
But then Seattle sued the citizens to "uphold the will of Seattle voters."
There is a cauldron of anger, rage, and fury among the people of the state of Washington. And rather than respond to it, the reaction by Olympia is to throw gasoline on the fire:
"Right now, we have an initiative that has passed …, Rep. Sharon Wylie, D-Vancouver, said. ... But we would be sabotaging our future if we did what we did years ago, which is to just say, 'The people voted for this, and we're going to do what the people want,' she said. "If we do that, we are sabotaging our economic future."
Let that sink in for a second. It sounds eerily familiar:
Associated Press, Feb 7, 1968: "It became necessary to destroy the town to save it," a U.S. major said Wednesday. He was talking about the grim decision that allied commanders made when Viet Cong attackers overran most of this Mekong Delta city 45 miles southwest of Saigon. They decided that regardless of civilian casualties they must bomb and shell the once placid rive city of 35,000 to rout the Viet Cong forces.
I continue to advocate for a peaceful response to our own government taking away democracy.
Today, the GOVERNMENT in Olympia is gonna vote on imposing a PAY-PER-MILE TAX. Join us and add your voice to ours as we give public testimony AGAINST this outrageous new tax. They're gonna vote right after we testify.
Let’s get this straight: they take away democracy, they insult us, they disrespect us, they take away our $30 Tabs, and now they’re voting to impose a PAY PER MILE TAX in addition to one the highest gas taxes in the nation and sky-high tolls. It’s insane!
Show up early so we can sign up early to testify early. They won’t listen to us unless we show up!! Wherever you live, make it here.
