Recently I was asked what my favorite remake was on Twitter. I never answered this question, but it got me thinking about some of the better examples out there of studios taking a pre-existing story and recreating it for a new era of (blog post) cinema. To that end, I present to you David Cronenberg's "The Fly." A remake of a classic science gone wrong story from the 50s, The Fly spices things up for the 80s with genetics and amazing effects. How well does it represent the source material though, and more importantly does that matter?
