Description of Work


This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits, competitive salaries and many career development opportunities.  

Day to day operation of docking department including assisting in maintenance and repairs of Syncrolift and other Shipyard equipment such as forklifts, cranes, loaders and small engines.  Operation of forklifts, cranes and loaders.   Assist in the process of arranging cradles, block, ropes and equipment for hauling vessels. Assist in blocking, hauling, transferring, and refloating vessels.  This position reports directly to the Marine Dockmaster.

This position works out of the NCDOT Ferry Shipyard at Manns Harbor.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in the general maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, and machinery. 
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and work from sketches or penciled drawings. 
  • Experience operating the more common types of machine shop equipment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Experience performing heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
