Wounded Ukrainian Soldier Rehabilitates With Horse Therapy at Lviv Racetrack

A horse farm outside Lviv, Ukraine, has transformed into a hippotherapy clinic for wounded Ukrainian soldiers, helping amputees and traumatized combat veterans recover by riding horses as a form of physical therapy.

Footage taken by journalist David Melero shows double-leg amputee Sergey ride a horse around a racetrack to help with his balance and depression.

Sergey, originally from Kharkiv, lost his legs from an antitank mine during an evacuation in September and has been receiving treatment at the horse farm and a military hospital near Lviv.

Speaking to Storyful, Melero said that the hippotherapy initiative is entirely volunteer-run and started working with soldiers when the war started to help with physical and psychological rehabilitation. Credit: David Melero via Storyful
