Salary Range or Recruitment Range:  NC09 Salary Range:  $38,516 – $67,404

This posting is for an Engineering Technician II in the Forsyth County Maintenance Unit. Work will consist of technical support to the Forsyth County Maintenance Department.  This position will assist in the inspection of commercial driveway permits, right-of-way utility encroachments, erosion control, traffic control devices, and roadway construction.  This position may also be required to inspect contractor performance including guardrail repairs, long arm mowing and roadside mowing. The position will perform routine inspection on a variety of projects to ensure general compliance with plans and specifications and submit required records, reports & diaries within specified time frame.  Employee will be subject to both inside and outside extreme environmental conditions, in addition to hazards at highway construction sites, including heavy equipment and highway traffic.  Must obtain & keep current QMS Asphalt & Concrete Testing Certifications, Roadway Density Certifications & Erosion Control Certificates Levels II & III. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must meet the Education Requirements and all KSAs in order to qualify. Qualified applicants must submit an application that CLEARLY reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience in conducting independent, moderately complex inspections, with limited supervision.
  • Experience independently conducting inspections for compliance with contract agreements, standards and specifications.
  • Experience in maintaining neat, legible and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.
  • A working knowledge and understanding of NCDOT concepts, practices, and theories used in highway maintenance.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of computers, software and basic mathematics.

 

Additional Expectations:

Physical activities include but are not limited to standing, walking, talking and hearing.  Must be able to communicate effectively both in written and oral form.   Exposed to extreme conditions such as ice, snow, difficult terrain, dust, extreme heat and cold, high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.  Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid inmate card. Safety toe shoes are required. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.  

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
