Princess has hit 20 mph.” True to her breed, at three, Princess is high strung, exu- berant and loves to play. “She’s my constant companion,” Winkleblack says. “Clients who come into the office get a very joyful greeting.” YOGI T his is not your ordinary Pug. “He’s a healthy, athletic six-year-old,” says Yogi’s human, Chris Hermen. “He hikes with me. Five miles is no problem for him.” Last summer, Hermen came to Monterey to accept the position of Director of Finance at Portola Hotel and Spa. “We lived in the hotel for a time, so Yogi knows the property well. He thinks he owns the place.” This pugnacious pug has the run of the hotel and serves as an unofficial and enthusiastic greeter to guests— and their dogs. “When a dog barks at the moon, then it is religion; but when he barks at strangers, it is patriotism!” ~ David Starr Jordan “
