Description of Work

This is a Temporary Full-Time Position.  There are no leave or retirement benefits offered.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) vision is to be a global leader in providing innovative transportation solutions to all North Carolinians. 
The Office of Civil Rights is a Division of NCDOT which exists to promote and ensure that customers and employees have equal access and equal opportunity to participate in transportation programs without facing unlawful discrimination.

 The Office of Civil Rights carries out this mission by enforcing federal and state laws and regulations that prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, disability, age and, in certain circumstances, genetics, sex and religion, in programs and activities that receive federal and/or state financial assistance.
 
The Accountant I position reports to the Business & Finance Manager for the Office of Civil Rights.  Duties may include the following:

  • Processing Invoices
  • Adjusting budget as needed
  • Creating requisitions/purchase orders
  • Facilitating fixed assets
  • ITS eBilling
  • Assist in the restructuring/implementing of the internal controls as they are related to finance
  • Assisting finance manager with daily duties
  • P-Card reconciler



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies


Qualified Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
  

  • Considerable knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Considerable knowledge of governmental accounting methods, procedures and financial practices.
  • Experience interpreting and applying common to moderately complex Federal and State fiscal regulations.
  • Experience analyzing and correcting financial problems and accounting errors.
  • Experience preparing interpretive or analytical accounting or financial reports.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a degree in business administration, finance or public administration or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution with 18 semester hours of accounting; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
