The suspect who allegedly killed a man and wounded a woman at Cross Crossing Shopping Centre II in San Fernando on Monday (20th November 2023), has been identified as Sharaz Ageemoolar. He walked into the office of General Accident Insurance and shot his ex-wife, 47-year-old Anissa Rajgobin-Ageemoolar twice, around 10:00 AM, before hijacking a car outside and killing an innocent bystander, identified as 24-year-old Rosario Ramdhan, of Springvale, Claxton Bay.
Sharaz killed himself hours later after managing to elude capture by Police during the day. He was found dead on Monday night at Arjoonsingh Drive, La Romaine, in the same car he stole.
According to reports, the tragic series of events started at 10:00 AM on Monday morning, when Anissa went to the insurance office to conduct some business. Her ex-husband, Sharaz, followed her into the office and asked to speak to her outside. She refused, following which he fired two (2) shots, hitting her in the chest.
He then fled outside and proceeded to enter a white Nissan Tiida, owned by Kenton Moses, which was parked outside. Ramdhan, who was related to Moses, was sitting in the back seat of the Tiida and saw Sharaz as he came running out of the office. Police said Moses was inside the insurance office and ran up to Sharaz and attempted to grab him. However, Sharaz opened fire, hitting Ramdhan instead in the process. Bleeding profusely, Ramdhan tried to escape and stumbled up the street to avoid more bullets. However, he collapsed face-down on the road, around fifty (50) feet away and subsequently died. A worker from the nearby NP Gas Station said four (4) gunshots were heard — two (2) inside the insurance office and two (2) outside. “I just duck. I went in a place where I know bullets will not fly,” the worker said. Still shaken, he added: “Nobody really safe out here anymore.” Police were notified about the shooting and upon arrival, found Anissa bleeding inside an office. While the scene was being processed by Police, Ramdhan’s girlfriend arrived, visibly distraught. “Danny, oh gawd, Danny, what they do Danny,” she wept. Two (2) relatives tried to console her, but she then tried to get to his body, her eyes rolling with agony as she saw him covered up with a white sheet, surrounded by Homicide Officers. She was eventually lifted bodily and taken away.
Police said Sharaz lived in La Romaine with his two (2) sons, both in their 20s, while his ex-wife, Anissa, lived in Aripero.
Crime scene investigators retrieved two (2) spent shells fired from a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and three (3) projectiles. Police believe the shooting was premeditated. Supt. Sean Dhilpaul, ASP Steve Persad, ASP Ramdath Phillip, Insp. Roland Ramlogan, Insp. Dirk John and other Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region III are conducting investigations. Anissa remains warded in a stable condition at this time at the San Fernando General Hospital. More on this as it becomes available.
