FRAMINGHAM — Burritos, anyone?

The Saxonville Burrito Company opened last Saturday at the site of the former Neko’s of New York on Concord Street to much fanfare. Neko’s of New York is moving to the Old Path Village shopping center, said Neko Salameh, owner of both businesses.

“Almost closing time, but I wanted to give an enormous THANK YOU to everyone that came to give us a try,” Salameh wrote on the Saxonville Burrito Company’s Facebook page Saturday night. “…Making this big move with #NekosofNewYork and diving into a burrito business is madness, especially during these times. Was told a burrito place won’t work by the naysayers. I said, ‘That’s what the community wants.’ Still was called ‘crazy’ for taking the chance. I haven’t felt that feeling since opening in Nobscot back in 2015. Today, I experienced how supportive this community really is. How just a simple ‘good luck’ & ‘it was great’ can change your day, your perspective.”

Salameh opted to move Neko’s of New York to the Old Path Village shopping center because the plaza offered a larger space and more parking. He sought recommendations from the community on how to fill his Concord Street space and residents overwhelmingly encouraged him to open a burrito shop.

Saxonville Burrito Company, which will operate as a takeout eatery, offers a variety of burritos, soups and flatbreads. The full menu can be found on the eatery’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/saxonvilleburritocompany.

Saxonville Burrito Company is open from Tuesday through Sunday.

The revamped Neko’s of New York is slated to open soon. Salameh plans to sell beer and wine, add televisions and offer new high-end menu items.

“We are still a few weeks out from opening in our NEW location on Old Conn. Path,” according to a recent post on the Neko’s of New York’s Facebook page.

Old Path Village shopping center burned to the ground in an early-morning fire in March 2017, but was rebuilt last year. A handful of businesses have opened at the 969 Concord St. center, including Turkish Mediterranean Cuisine — which also relocated from the Saxonville neighborhood.
