Driver of semi that crashed into house had fainted, crash report says

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WLUK) -- The driver whose semi went off Interstate 41, crashing into a house and killing a baby, fainted as a result of a medical condition, sheriff's officials say.

The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office released the crash report Wednesday. It indicates the driver, a 63-year-old Little Chute man, was unconscious and lost control, causing the semi to careen off the interstate, cross a frontage road and crash into the town of Vinland house July 25.


Martin Stechner III, age 8 months, was inside the house. He was killed in the crash.


The driver's daughter has told FOX 11 he was "mentally torn up from the situation."

Sheriff's officials say a blood sample was taken from the driver as a routine part of the investigation. Lab results are expected to take weeks to be completed.

The crash investigation continues.
