Story
Raising money in memory of the most wonderful man Pete Nairne. Pete was sadly taken just six months after his initial diagnosis of a Thalamic Glioblastoma. Which was exacerbated by SARS Covid-19. Pete is a much missed friend, brother, newly married husband and of course Daddy to two incredible boys.
Pete was such a talented, gentle and generous soul who put up with more than his fair share of my crap over the years. Pete wasn't just my best man, my best mate and my family he was often my moral compass… quietly inspiring me to be a better man.
I’m raising money so the brain tumour charity can work towards helping other families make the best of their brain tumour diagnosis. 1000 miles in a year is roughly 20 miles a week every week for 52 weeks. Planning on doing some events to raise money and awareness on my way… and taking Pete with me every mile I run.
I have worked in neurosurgical theatres for most of my professional life and have cared for many, many patients who have been afflicted with brain tumours. Before Pete’s diagnosis I was very familiar with my role in my patients journey but witnessing how his illness affected every part of his life has left me with a profound feeling of helplessness and guilt that I couldn’t do more. I hope that by raising money I can help others in the future.
The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives.
