Greater Cincinnati girl and her dog receive new prosthetic legs together
A Greater Cincinnati child who wears a prosthetic leg now has a furry best friend with a matching prosthetic.
Earlier this year, we shared the story of Anna Grace, who was surprised by her mom Wynne Philippe with a new furry best friend who's just like her.
Philippe says 10-year-old Anna Grace was born missing part of her leg and now wears a prosthetic leg. The 10-year-old has always wanted a puppy, and specifically, a puppy with a limb difference, like her.
According to Philippe, Anna Grace says she knows what it's like to be different so she said she could help a puppy who is also different.
Philippe filmed a video of her handing Anna Grace a red envelope for her birthday. The 10-year-old opened the envelope to find a photo inside of a dog that was going to soon be hers.
You can watch that video in the video player above.
The family then traveled to the Canadian border in Michigan to pick up the dog. After seeing the dog's limb difference, Anna Grace became speechless. She then screamed in excitement. The family named the dog Kricket.
Philippe shared a heartwarming update with us Friday, saying they recently traveled to Nashville to get Anna Grace a new prosthetic leg because she had outgrown her old leg.
The family works with a nonprofit group called Amputee Blade Runners.
The family took Kricket with them and when they got to the non-profit to get Anna Graces' new prosthetic, the group asked, "Do you want us to try to make a prosthetic for the puppy also?”
That's just what they did, Philippe said.
Kricket loves her new leg and Philippe said her endurance during walks has improved so much.
"I think she loves her leg because she comes right to me and sits when she sees me pick up her leg," Philippe said.
