Yes, you read right. Fans of MR will love this.
I am going to make wings for humans that allow them to fly.
I need help.

I have a major in biology and zoology and I am sure it is physically possible. Once I get a scanner I can show you sketches I drew, I'll cut out the science terms though. _________________ What is your mission in life? To fly away from from the cage of humanity and break into imortality.

i'm going to help. I know most science terms though. _________________ There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered. -Nelson Mandela |

Good, good... this is good. Try your hand at sketching ways we could make them and what we could make them out of... _________________ What is your mission in life? To fly away from from the cage of humanity and break into imortality.

I think it'd be easier if we could make them grow from the human. I mean inject some syrum into them that gives them the correct bird DNA to get the job done _________________ There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered. -Nelson Mandela |

That would require isolating that particular section of DNA and finding a way to graft it to human DNA. So far that's not known possible. It's a possibility though. _________________ What is your mission in life? To fly away from from the cage of humanity and break into imortality.

Personally, I think that if one were to do somatic engineering on a human to make the physically alterations needed for flight to be a possilbility... The process would kill them.
Organs would need to be altered. Organs! I really don't think it will work, and since I'm not looking to die anytime soon... It's a no from me.
It would also be an incredibly painful process, if you mangaed to survive it. Bone growing, and others shrinking, and organs changing and... AH, AH, AH! Sorry, but just... ouchie. _________________ "I believe the smell is causing me to become deranged. I may have to run away in panic." -Ax, Animorphs #9

It'd be worth it in the end though. Besides, we wouldn't start off with humans, we'd start on lab mice. First we figure the wings, then the muscle formation, then the organs. _________________ There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered. -Nelson Mandela |

We could start on mice, then we'd have to move to a larger animal with a similar muscle and bone structure to humans. _________________ What is your mission in life? To fly away from from the cage of humanity and break into imortality.

You would need to use viruses to insert the new genetic material, by the way. I'm not sure on how the whole thing works or anything, but I was trying to figure out how I could make myself glow in the dark a few years ago. As near as I could figure, it would be fairly easy to give me a glow in the dark mole... But there was something with the oligonucleotides that I couldn't figure out.
But yeah, the jist of it is you have your genetic code. You graft whatever avian and all DNA into it... this will probably be faulty, if you look at how often they get genetic codes wrong in genetically engineered embryos and the babies miscarry... So you'll probably die before the entire process of growing wings can begin, but lets just say that the scientists get it right. So then the virus genetic code is removed from the virus, and your altered genetic code is put in. Viruses naturally go into your cells and alter them to replicate their genetic code... Except now it is replicating your altered genetic code.
Only, what I can't seem to figure out is how this infection can actually start to affect a person really. I mean, I get it in theory... but whatever. I still think that it would kill you. I'm not trying to be mean or anyting. I'm just trying to be logical. _________________ "I believe the smell is causing me to become deranged. I may have to run away in panic." -Ax, Animorphs #9

I understand that. Logic is key.

Why would you want to Glow in the dark? The reason most people think that it's impossible is because nobody has ever tried before. You can say it's impossible all you want but you'll never know until you get all the facts and attempt it. _________________ There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered. -Nelson Mandela |
