Detroit-based hip-hop artist Lyricist brings summer vibes straight to listeners in his latest single, “Feel Good,” Ft. Ron T. Upbeat, fun, and relaxing, the fresh track is Lyricist’s current single off his upcoming EP release.
“‘Feel Good’ is one of those songs I wrote to change it up a bit,” shares Lyricist. “I wanted a lighter feel. I wanted to give people reason to dance, unwind, feel good. It’s a more loose track for me.”
The single is about dating someone and learning to live in the moment. “The goal of the song is to make listeners feel free to relax and enjoy themselves. Let go,” adds Lyricist. “When you’re doing that in a relationship, you can have new experiences together. The song is about getting to know someone and even if you have apprehensions about being in a relationship, you take your mind off it and enjoy the moment. Let’s have fun.”
Creating the single came down to the concept first. “The producer I was working with sent a couple of beats. I was going through the beats he sent me and I played that particular beat over and over again. It went hand in hand—fit perfectly—with the concept I had,” shares Lyricist. “The song was freestyle. Both of my verses were freestyle, then I collab’d with the singer (Ron T.) on the actual chorus for it. I wanted to talk to my female fanbase, ‘this is how you should feel when you’re with someone.’ And we came up with the perfect hook for it.”
The artist’s path to music has taken many directions over the years, shaping his personal sound. “Coming up in the battle rap scene in Detroit is a big part of who I am but not a motivator. I grew up in a musically inclined family. My brothers rapped in the early 90s, and I fell in love with the scene. For me, that’s my story of how I was really introduced to music. I also named my record label (Sur Jay Records, now Sur Jay Music Group) in honor of my brother who passed away at a young age.”
Lyricist’s upcoming EP is a nod to his journey. “It’s the introduction of who I am, my growth as an artist,” tells the artist. “It demonstrates layers of creativity. ‘Feel Good’ is a single that gives insight into how I create and express myself on many levels.” Another single off the EP is “From the Dirt,” which speaks to Lyricist’s hard work to become the man and musician he is today.
