Prep B News

The past few weeks have been super busy in Prep B. We have been finishing off our assessment, enjoying some fun celebrations and creating some fine motor crafts. We finally had our 100 days celebration, were we dressed up as 100 year old people and went visiting around the school. We also participated in many activities. During our book week celebration we were able to dress as our favourite characters and read some of our favourite books. Frozen and Spiderman were very popular amongst Prep B friends.

Please enjoy our photos from our 100 day celebration and book week parade.

Genius Hour in the Library

Stop Motion Animation

Years ago, Google came up with an idea to give their employees an allocated time to work on whatever passion project they chose. Teachers caught onto the idea and soon it became a trend. Last week, while the grade three and four teachers were busy planning for next term, students got to visit the library for their own "Genius Hour".

Students learnt how a stop motion animation can be created using a simple device like a mobile phone or iPad and a collection of toys or clay. They created their own background image and a character from modelling clay. Students took instructions home - some may decide to work on a passion project of their own over the holidays...

3D News

Busy, busy, busy in 3D!

Students in 3D using the Learning Wall and the Bump it Up Wall to assist with their learning. The Learning Wall contains charts and information to assist with learning tasks while the bump it up wall has the steps needed to achieve the learning goal. After the pre-test for a task, students plot themselves using name tags, on the wall. As we progress through the task and learning opportunities, they can move their name tags to where they think they are achieving. This is a very useful way for myself and them, to monitor how they are moving through the unit of work.

Term 3 in 3D

The five questions help the students to know the purpose of their learning and how they are progressing. Each student also has a bookmark of the five questions on their desks to support their learning.

The Vocabulary Wall supports the students learning as they progress through the unit. Some of the students will find or think of a word that they think would be useful on the wall, so we will add it. The wall contains describing words and alternative suggestions for everyday words that students can choose to improve their written tasks.

Students use the Learning Wall and Bump It Up Wall to assist in their learning.  The learning wall contains definitons and reminders of concepts that the students can use in their learning tasks. The Bump It Up Wall has the steps required for students to achieve the learning goal. After the pre-write, the students use name tags to place themselves where they feel they are starting from with the unit of work. As they progress through the unit and tasks, they can move their name tags. This for useful for the class and the teacher to keep track of how everyone is managing their learning and who may require some extra support.

The learning wall for our recent unit where the students had to rewrite a story from a different characters point of view was based on 'The Lorax'. The students loved our decorations.

It is possible to see the charts, defintions etc that

support the students with their learning.
