Janina Minge signs for VfL Women

The 24-year-old will join Wolfsburg in the summer on a free transfer from Freiburg.

VfL Women have completed their first new signing for next season after securing the services of Germany international Janina Minge, who will join the She-Wolves in the summer. The 24-year-old will move on a free transfer from Bundesliga rivals SC Freiburg and has signed a contract until 30 June 2027.

Over 170 competitive appearances for Freiburg

The midfielder has made 155 Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga appearances and 22 DFB Cup outings for Freiburg to date, scoring 26 goals. The Lindau native, who was Freiburg’s top scorer last season with nine goals, rose through the youth ranks at the Black Forest club before making her Bundesliga debut as a 16-year-old in December 2015. She was handed her senior Germany bow in a friendly against Sweden on 21 February 2023.

“VfL known for excellent football”

“VfL Wolfsburg have been known for their excellent football and their impressive list of honours in the women’s game for several years,” explained Minge. “I’m highly motivated to join this top side and give 100 percent towards achieving our common goals. After nine years at SC Freiburg, this is the next step for me and I see this as the best place to continue my development as a player. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming challenges with VfL.”

“Janina has a great mentality”

Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg, said: “We’re really pleased that Janina – a versatile, goalscoring midfielder – will bolster our squad in the summer. She has a great mentality and is very much a team player, which is why she’ll be a huge asset for us in many respects.”
