The CADD Integration Team has the overall objective to act as a collaborative liaison between NCDIT, NCDOT units and Divisions related to Project CADD workflow. The CADD Integration Team supports NCDOT staff and external consultant partners who are preconstruction users through standardized work products, processes, CADD solutions and acts as a collaborative liaison to develop, implement, and maintain the model centric digital delivery plan. Some of the functions include focus on NCDOT workspace development, training and CADD process enhancements on platforms such as SharePoint, ProjectWise and OpenX suite.

We are looking for an Engineer III to join this newly created team.

In the position you will assist and support the Team Lead by:
  • Developing and enhancing the department’s digital delivery initiative by coordinating with various NCDOT disciplines as needed. 
  • Organize CADD support through the efforts of multidisciplinary teams in vetting the software, workspace and unit specific workflows, leading meetings, and creating or updating documentation on the progress. 
  • Identify and develop training materials and avenues to provide guidance and best practices for NCDOT Technical Services units, Divisions and PEF’s tailored for their workflow. 
  • Provide direct training to lower-level engineers, Transportation Engineering Associates, and interns. 
  • Assist NCDOT staff in multiple units with CADD related project workflow on ProjectWise and SharePoint platforms and track progress of tasks, compile and generate status reports. 
  • Create software related guidance, by communicating with the team, general users and collaborating with departmental units, PEF staff, and software vendors on identifying and solving software, workspace, and workflow issues. 
  • Identify and create CADD tools such as cells, line styles, and templates for unit workspaces.
  • Identify needs for developing, executing, and evaluating various design and modeling test scenarios for the Technical Services units, Divisions, PEFs and the Digital Delivery Team.
  • Create CADD training materials (including manuals, data sets, presentations & videos) and present as necessary to venues such as user-group conferences, webinars and group meetings.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience utilizing NCDOT & AASHTO design principles, NCDOT project delivery workflow, NCDOT Standard Specifications and Standard Drawings.
  • Thorough knowledge of Bentley highway design software and workspaces, preferably with MicroStation, Geopak, OpenX suite (OpenRoads Designer, OpenBridge Designer etc.), SS2 Corridor Modeling and/or AutoCAD.
  • Experience working cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Experience in providing timely customer service; ensuring effective interactions with other departments, employees, and customers; and working cooperatively across disparate and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Experience creating or developing informational products and managing programs or project plans to develop and implement short-term strategies.

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
