As reflected in their monumental art (5th-9th centuries CE)

There are two main objectives of this project: (1) to assemble all examples of Sogdian wall-paintings and carved wood, both published and unpublished. For this purpose, a digital, open-access database will be created that will comprise these two categories of objects, arranged according to their find spot and archaeological context; and (2) to use the new possibilities of the comprehensive database to finally obtain a more complete and detailed picture of Sogdian social structures, religion, and realia.

The project is headed by Prof. Michael Shenkar
