PERRY, Ga. (WGXA) -- Hearts are broken at Perry High School after Athletic Trainer, Mike Pike unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday.

Head Volleyball Coach, Jamie Stewart says the news was hard to hear, "it was definitely a shock."

A shock that left Stewart on her knees.

"Immediately I went into prayer mode for Mike and his family," Stewart said.

Head Baseball Coach Denny Bryant and Coach Stewart both said nothing can replace Pike because he left a lasting impact on those around him.

Bryant remembered how Pike "would always put the athletes first." Stewart added, "The kids loved him if they were having conversations at practice and anything was bothering them, they'd be like, can I go see Mike? and you always want them to be in the best condition so you let them go."

Stewart said she isn't sure how long it will take to get past his loss, but there's one thing she believes will give everyone a little peace. She said, "it's going to take a long time to get through this and I know that Mike being in the presence of the Lord at this time is our hope and joy and comfort."

Both colleagues said their hearts go out to the family, "Tammy and Tiffany and Michelle, we absolutely love you guys we are praying for you, we are lifting you up non-stop. Mike's legacy will live-- will always run through our athletic program and our high school."
