Space horror sequels like Pinhead

It's no secret that sequels to horror films are very popular, and many moviegoers are constantly on the lookout for the next big shock. But what happens when horror movie villains travel to space? Here are 5 horror movie villains that ventured to space. Some were successful, while others were not so much.

The Leprechaun

The worst of the Leprechaun horror movie series is Leprechaun 4: In Space. Yes, it takes place in space, but that's what makes it so amazing. Leprechaun 4 is a great example of how to make something "special" out of a totally ridiculous premise. The movie is full of practical effects, creative kills, and Leprechaun quotes that will make you roll on the floor laughing. Leprechaun 4: In Space is a must-see for anyone who likes the Leprechaun movies or scary movies in general.

Pinhead

Hellraiser: Bloodline is a prequel and sequel. Story covers 1700s, 1990s, and 2200s. Let's be honest: I'm just here for Pinhead and the other Cenobites. Doug Bradley maintains a cold, menacing, demonic air when he performs. This is confusing, but who cares? Even if you've watched Hellraiser, Bloodline's Pinhead moments are disturbing. If you loved Clive Barker's Hellraiser, you should read this. Even without any logic, it's a fun ride.

Critters

Critters 4's space setting piqued my interest. How could they top the first Critters? The cast list wasn't encouraging. Dourif? Bassett? Anders Hove, the Danish actor? How could this work?

And my concerns were verified when I eventually watched Critters 4. While the plot and characters weren't very memorable, it was an obvious rip-off of other popular series placed in an unpleasant locale. What truly hurts from a fan standpoint is that the very features that made the prior entries distinctive and enjoyable are either entirely stripped away or simply not there at all. Critters 4 is a terrible mess and a major letdown.

Dracula

Dracula 3000 is one of the few bad horror movies that are so bad that they're almost impossible to watch. I hate Dracula 3000 and I love it. Even though it's terrible the whole time, the worst part is the ending, which was a total cop-out and left me feeling very unsatisfied. I thought "Dracula in Space" would be so bad that it would be funny, but it was so bad that it was awful. The idea is fun, but the acting is bad and the dialogue is so bad that it's almost impossible to watch. If you want to feel bad for the rest of the day, you should watch it.

Also, Coolio. Coolio plays a role in it. Have I mentioned that already?

Jason Voorhees

Jason X is the most renowned horror sequel with a space villain. Jason Voorhees is an icon. How he got there doesn't matter. Why he's in space is unknown. All that counts is Jason is in space and ready to cause mayhem.

It is my view that Jason X is interesting to see because of the easter eggs and allusions to prior Friday the 13th films, in addition to his transformation into Uber Jason.

Aficionados of campy, cheesy, and slasher flicks will like this movie a lot, even if it isn't everyone's cup of tea. This is a terrific one for the fans of horror movies.

Conclusion

Horror movie sequels are a (Friday the 13th in space) VERY mixed bag. Leprechaun 4: In Space, for example, takes a preposterous concept and elevates it to a new level of creativity and hilarity. Others, like Dracula 3000, are so terrible they're virtually unwatchable. If you're a horror movie enthusiast, it's certainly worth checking out some of the most iconic horror movie sequels in space. This may be the beginning of an all-new love affair with the genre for you.
